Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems, methods, and computer storage media for implementing a nuanced-color search and recommendation system. Employing various techniques described herein, an improved search engine for categorizable items is provided to generate accurate color-based search results and recommendations that are relevant to a nuanced color provided as a search parameter. In various implementations, digital assets that depict categorizeable items can be analyzed to characterize the depicted items with, among other things, a particular shade of a determined dominant color. In this way, categorizeable items can be searched based at least in part on a selected shade of a particular dominant color to generate a primary search result. In further embodiments, other categorizeable items can be generated as recommendations based on characteristics of the primary search result. That is, other items not necessarily subject of the search, can be provided as recommended items if predefined rules dictate that such items may complement the categorizable items included in the primary search result.

What is claimed is: 1. A computer-implemented method for searching by color, the method comprising: determining, by a server device, a dominant color of a plurality of colors based on a selected portion of a digital asset; selecting, by the server device, a particular shade from a plurality of shades of the dominant color based on the selected portion of the digital asset; generating, by the server device, a search query based at least in part on the particular shade; and generating, by the server device, a search result based on the search query, the search result including a plurality of records that each references the particular shade. 2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selected portion of the digital asset is received from a remote computing device. 3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the search query is generated in response to receiving the selected portion of the digital asset from the remote computing device. 4. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the portion of the digital asset is selected via a GUI provided for display on the remote computing device. 5. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the digital asset is received from the remote computing device. 6. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the digital asset is retrieved from a URL in response to receiving the URL from the remote computing device. 7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selected portion of the digital asset corresponds to one of a plurality of pixels in the digital asset. 8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: color correcting the digital asset based on a colored emblem or a colored logo having known color values being depicted in the digital asset, wherein the dominant color is determined and the particular shade is selected based on the selected portion of the color-corrected digital asset. 9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the search result is generated based further on a selected category, and the plurality of records each references the selected category. 10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the search result is generated based further on a selected pattern, and the plurality of records each references the selected pattern. 11. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the search result is generated based further on a selected second most dominant color, and the plurality of records each references the selected second most dominant color. 12. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the dominant color is determined based on a comparison of color values associated with the plurality of dominant colors to the selected portion of the digital asset. 13. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein responsive to the dominant color being determined, the particular shade is selected based on a comparison of color values associated with the plurality of shades to the selected portion of the digital asset. 14. A computerized system comprising: one or more processors; and one or more computer storage media storing computer-usable instructions that, when used by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to: determine a dominant color of a plurality of colors based on a selected portion of a digital asset; select a particular shade from a plurality of shades of the dominant color based on the selected portion of the digital asset; generate a search query based at least in part on the particular shade; and generate a search result based on the search query, the search result including a plurality of records that each references the particular shade and matches the selected portion of the digital asset. 15. The computerized system of claim 14 , wherein the search result is generated based further on a pattern detected in the digital asset, the plurality of records each referencing the detected pattern. 16. The computerized system of claim 14 , the search result further including a plurality of different records that each references a different shade determined to complement the particular shade. 17. The computerized system of claim 14 , wherein the portion of the digital asset is selected from a color palette generated based on the digital asset. 18. The computerized system of claim 14 , wherein the portion of the digital asset is selected from the digital asset resized to correspond to a predefined area of a GUI. 19. A non-transitory computer storage medium storing computer-useable instructions that, when used by one or more computing devices, cause the one or more computing devices to perform operations comprising: determining a dominant color of a plurality of colors based on a selected portion of a digital asset; selecting a particular shade from a plurality of shades of the dominant color based on the selected portion of the digital asset; generating a search query based at least in part on the particular shade; and generating a search result based on the search query, the search result including a plurality of records that each references the particular shade. 20. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 19 , the operations further comprising: generating an image color palette based on the digital asset, wherein the portion of the digital asset is selected from the generated image color palette.
