Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An integrated respiratory pressure therapy device and humidifier for pressurising and humidifying breathable air to treat a respiratory disorder in a patient, includes a blower configured to pressurise the breathable air; a water reservoir configured to hold a volume of water to be used for humidification of the breathable air, the water reservoir comprising a water reservoir base, a water reservoir lid connected to the water reservoir base, and a compliant portion. The compliant portion is constructed from an elastomeric material and configured to seal between the water reservoir base and the water reservoir lid. A water reservoir dock forms a cavity configured to partially receive the water reservoir. The water reservoir lid includes a protrusion and the water reservoir dock includes a recess configured to releasably engage one another to secure the water reservoir to the water reservoir dock.

The invention claimed is: 1. A water reservoir for use with a respiratory pressure therapy (RPT) device for pressurising breathable air to treat a respiratory disorder in a patient, the water reservoir comprising: a reservoir base configured to hold a volume of water to be used for humidification of the breathable air; a reservoir lid connectable to the reservoir base; a reservoir inlet; a reservoir outlet; and a removable insert configured to be arranged between the reservoir base and the reservoir lid when the reservoir lid is connected to the reservoir base, wherein the removable insert comprises a carrier portion and a seal provided to the carrier portion, wherein the seal is configured and arranged to seal between the reservoir lid and the reservoir base when the reservoir lid is connected to the reservoir base, wherein the carrier portion is more rigid than the seal to provide structural rigidity to the removable insert, and wherein the carrier portion comprises a flow director configured and arranged to redirect at least a portion of a flow of air entering the water reservoir from the reservoir inlet. 2. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the flow director is configured and arranged to direct at least the portion of the flow of air in a direction that, when the water reservoir is in use, is approximately parallel with a top surface of the volume of water in the reservoir base. 3. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the carrier portion comprises a plastic material and the seal comprises an elastomeric material. 4. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the carrier portion comprises a nylon material and the seal comprises a silicone material. 5. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the carrier portion comprises at least one support spoke to support and position the flow director on the removable insert. 6. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the removable insert is configured to be removably inserted into the reservoir lid. 7. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the carrier portion comprises a portion configured and arranged to direct at least a portion of a flow of air exiting the water reservoir to the reservoir outlet. 8. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the reservoir inlet is associated with an inlet conduit having an interior end terminating within the water reservoir and the reservoir outlet is associated with an outlet conduit having an interior end terminating within the water reservoir. 9. The water reservoir according to claim 8 , wherein the carrier portion further comprises a conduit portion that forms a part of the inlet conduit. 10. The water reservoir according to claim 9 , further comprising a seal provided to the conduit portion to form a seal between the conduit portion and the inlet conduit. 11. The water reservoir according to claim 8 , wherein the carrier portion further comprises a deflector configured and arranged to obstruct a direct flow path between the interior end of the inlet conduit and the interior end of the outlet conduit. 12. The water reservoir according to claim 8 , wherein the inlet conduit includes a first conduit portion and a second conduit portion, wherein the first conduit portion defines a first axis and the second conduit portion defines a second axis, and wherein the first axis is inclined with respect to the second axis. 13. The water reservoir according to claim 12 , wherein the second conduit portion of the inlet conduit is configured to direct the pressurized breathable air exiting the interior end of the inlet conduit towards a surface of the volume of water. 14. The water reservoir according to claim 12 , wherein the reservoir base includes a bottom surface forming a bottom plane that is substantially horizontal when the water reservoir is in a working orientation, and the second axis of the second conduit portion of the inlet conduit is substantially perpendicular to the bottom plane. 15. The water reservoir according to claim 12 , wherein the reservoir base includes a bottom surface forming a bottom plane that is substantially horizontal when the water reservoir is in a working orientation, and the first axis of the first conduit portion of the inlet conduit is substantially parallel to the bottom plane. 16. The water reservoir according to claim 12 , wherein the reservoir base includes a bottom surface forming a bottom plane that is substantially horizontal when the water reservoir is in a working orientation, and the first axis of the first conduit portion of the inlet conduit is non-parallel to the bottom plane. 17. The water reservoir according to claim 8 , wherein at least one of the interior end of the inlet conduit or the interior end of the outlet conduit is located proximal a center of a cavity of the water reservoir. 18. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the water reservoir comprises a side wall in which both the reservoir inlet and the reservoir outlet are formed. 19. The water reservoir according to claim 18 , wherein the reservoir base includes a bottom surface forming a bottom plane that is substantially horizontal when the water reservoir is in a working orientation, and the reservoir inlet and the reservoir outlet are positioned at different heights from the bottom surface when the water reservoir is in the working orientation. 20. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the reservoir lid is pivotally connected to the reservoir base to allow the water reservoir to be movable between an open position and a closed position. 21. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , wherein the reservoir base includes a conductor plate constructed from a heat conducting material. 22. The water reservoir according to claim 1 , further comprising a latch arrangement to secure the reservoir base and the reservoir lid together. 23.
