The present invention provides polymer ammunition having a primer insert having: a top surface; a bottom surface opposite the top surface; a coupling element that extends from the bottom surface, wherein the coupling element comprises an interior surface and an exterior surface, wherein the interior surface comprises: a transition region that transitions from the bottom surface to a second segment wherein the transition region has a radius of from 0.02 to 0.08; a first segment extending from the second segment and terminates at a tip, wherein the first segment has a first segment distance from 0.05 to 0.09 inches and the second segment has a second segment distance from 0.05 to 0.09 inches, wherein the second segment has a second segment angle from +3 to −3 degrees relative to the first segment angle and the first segment has a first segment angle from +6 to −6 degrees from perpendicular to the top surface; a primer recess in the top surface that extends toward the bottom surface; a primer flash aperture positioned in the primer recess through the bottom surface; and a flash aperture groove in the primer recess and positioned around the primer flash aperture and adapted to receive a polymer overmolding through the primer flash aperture.

What is claimed is: 1. A polymer ammunition cartridge comprising: a primer insert comprising a top surface; a bottom surface opposite the top surface; a coupling element that extends from the bottom surface, wherein the coupling element comprises an interior surface and an exterior surface, wherein the interior surface comprises: a transition region that transitions from the bottom surface to a second segment wherein the transition region has a radius of from 0.02 to 0.08 inches; a first segment extending from the second segment and terminates at a tip, wherein the first segment has a first segment distance from 0.05 to 0.09 inches and the second segment has a second segment distance from 0.05 to 0.09 inches, wherein the second segment has a second segment angle from +3 to −3 degrees relative to a first segment angle of the first segment, wherein the first segment angle from +6 to −6 degrees from perpendicular to the top surface; a primer recess in the top surface that extends toward the bottom surface; a primer flash hole aperture positioned in the primer recess through the bottom surface; and a flash hole aperture groove in the primer recess and positioned around the primer flash hole aperture and adapted to receive a polymer overmolding through the primer flash hole aperture; a polymeric middle body comprising a polymeric body extending from a body coupling over at least a portion of the primer insert, wherein the polymeric body is molded over the coupling element and into the primer flash hole aperture and into the groove to form a primer flash hole; and a polymer nose comprising a generally cylindrical neck having a projectile aperture at a first end; a shoulder that extends from the generally cylindrical neck; and a nose junction in communication with the shoulder, wherein the nose junction is mated to the body coupling to form a propellent chamber; a primer fitted to the primer recess; and a propellant housed in the propellent chamber; and a projectile positioned in the projectile aperture. 2. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the transition region comprises one or more straight segments, one or more curved segments or a combination of one or more straight segments and one or more curved segments. 3. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the first segment has a first segment distance is about 0.07 inches, the second segment has a second segment distance is about 0.07 inches and the transition region is concave with a radius of about 0.05 inches. 4. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 3 , wherein the second segment has a second segment angle of about 1 degree and the first segment has a first segment angle of about 3 degrees. 5. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 3 , wherein the second segment has a second segment angle of about 3 degrees and the first segment has a first segment angle of about 0 degrees. 6. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 3 , further comprising an insert height that extends from the top surface to the tip, wherein the insert height is about 0.36 inches. 7. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 3 , further comprising an insert height that extends from the top surface to the tip, wherein the insert height is about 0.38 inches. 8. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 3 , further comprising an insert height that extends from the top surface to the tip, wherein the insert height is about 0.4 inches. 9. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the first segment has a first segment distance is about 0.068 inches, the second segment has a second segment distance is about 0.073 inches and the transition region is concave with a radius of about 0.05 inches. 10. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 9 , wherein the second segment has a second segment angle of about 1 degree and the first segment has a first segment angle of about 3 degrees. 11. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 9 , wherein the second segment has a second segment angle of about 3 degrees and the first segment has a first segment angle of about 0 degrees. 12. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 9 , further comprising an insert height that extends from the top surface to the tip, wherein the insert height is about 0.36 inches, the insert height is about 0.38 inches; or the insert height is about 0.4 inches. 13. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the first segment has a first segment distance is about 0.072 inches, the second segment has a second segment distance is about 0.068 inches and the transition region is concave with a radius of about 0.05 inches. 14. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the second segment has a second segment angle of about 3 degrees and the first segment has a first segment angle of about 0 degrees. 15. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 14 , wherein the second segment has a second segment angle of about 1 degree and the first segment has a first segment angle of about 3 degrees. 16. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the first segment has a first segment distance of about 0.066 inches, the second segment has a second segment distance of about 0.075 inches and the transition region is concave with a radius of about 0.05 inches; or the first segment has a first segment distance of about 0.065 inches, the second segment has a second segment distance of about 0.074 inches and the transition region is concave with a radius of about 0.05 inches. 17. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the polymer nose, the polymeric middle body or both individually comprise a nylon polymer, polycarbonate polymer, polybutylene polymer or a mixture thereof. 18. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the polymer nose, the polymeric middle body or both individually comprise between about 10 and about 70 wt % glass fiber fillers, mineral fillers, or mixtures thereof. 19. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the projectile is a 7.62 mm projectile. 20. The polymer ammunition cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the polymer nose, the polymeric middle body or both individually comprise a polymers selected from the group consisting of polyurethane prepolymer, cellulose, fluoro-polymer, ethylene inter-polymer alloy elastomer, ethylene vinyl acetate, nylon, polyether imide, polyester elastomer, polyester sulfone, polyphenyl amide, polypropylene, polyvinylidene fluoride or thermoset polyurea elastomer, acrylics, homopolymers, acetates, copolymers, acrylonitrile-butadinen-styrene, thermoplastic fluoro polymers, inomers, polyamides, polyamide-imides, polyacrylates, polyatherketones, polyaryl-sulfones, polybenzimidazoles, polycarbonates, polybutylene, terephthalates, polyether imides, polyether sulfones, thermoplastic polyimides, thermoplastic polyurethanes, polyphenylene sulfides, polyethylene, polypropylene, polysulfones, polyvinylchlorides, styrene acrylonitriles, polystyrenes, polyphenylene, ether blends, styrene maleic anhydrides, polycarbonates, allyls, aminos, cyanates, epoxies, phenolics, unsaturated polyesters, bismaleimides, polyurethanes, silicones, vinylesters, urethane hybrids, polyphenylsulfones, copolymers of polyphenylsulfones with polyethersulfones or polysulfones, copolymers of polyphenylsulfones with siloxanes, blends of polyphenylsulfones with polysiloxanes, poly(etherimide-siloxane) copolymers, blends of polyetherimides and polysiloxanes, and blends of polyetherimides and poly(etherimide-siloxane) copolymers.
