Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In an image forming apparatus to which a finisher is connected, a power source control unit shifts the image forming apparatus to a power saving state. The image forming apparatus is inhibited from being shifted to the power saving state when it is detected that a sheet for which a binding process is to be performed is set in the finisher. The image forming apparatus may be permitted to be shifted to the power saving state when it is not detected that the sheet is set in the finisher.

What is claimed is: 1. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets to a finisher having a stapling unit, wherein the stapling unit is capable of stapling the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is capable of stapling one or more sheets inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position at which the finisher is able to detect the inserted one or more sheets, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a display; and one or more processors configured to: turn on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets, the display which has been off. 2. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the predetermined position is a position at which the stapling unit is capable to stapling the inserted one or more sheets. 3. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the stapling unit further comprises a stapler that is able to staple the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is able to staple the inserted one or more sheets. 4. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the image forming apparatus conveys the sheets to the finisher one by one. 5. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the finisher further comprises a sensor configured to detect the inserted one or more sheets, and wherein the one or more processors are configured to turn on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets by the sensor, the display which has been off. 6. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to turn off the display based on occurring of a predetermined event. 7. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to turn on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets, the display in a predetermined situation. 8. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets to a finisher having a stapling unit, wherein the stapling unit is capable of stapling the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is capable of stapling one or more sheets inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position at which the finisher is able to detect the inserted one or more sheets, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a display that comprises a backlight; and one or more processors configured to: turn on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets, the backlight which has been off. 9. The image forming apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the predetermined position is a position at which the stapling unit is capable to stapling the inserted one or more sheets. 10. The image forming apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the stapling unit further comprises a stapler that is able to staple the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is able to staple the inserted one or more sheets. 11. The image forming apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the image forming apparatus conveys the sheets to the finisher one by one. 12. The image forming apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the finisher further comprises a sensor configured to detect the inserted one or more sheets, and wherein the one or more processors are configured to turn on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets by the sensor, the backlight which has been off. 13. The image forming apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to turn off the backlight based on occurring of a predetermined event. 14. The image forming apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to turn on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets, the backlight in a predetermined situation. 15. A method of controlling an image forming apparatus which is capable of conveying sheets to a finisher having a stapling unit, wherein the stapling unit is capable of stapling the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is capable of stapling one or more sheets inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position at which the finisher is able to detect the inserted one or more sheets, the method of the image forming apparatus comprising: printing an image on a sheet; and turning on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets, a display which has been off. 16. The method according to claim 15 , further comprising: turning off the display based on occurring of a predetermined event. 17. The method according to claim 15 , further comprising: turning on, based on the detection of the inserted one or more sheets, a display which has been off at a predetermined timing. 18. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets to a stapler, wherein the stapler is capable of stapling the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is capable of stapling one or more sheets inserted from an insertion slot of the stapler to a predetermined position at which a sensor is able to detect the inserted one or more sheets, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a display; and one or more processors configured to: stop power supply to the stapler based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein power supply to the stapler is not stopped even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that one or more sheets have been inserted to the predetermined position; and display, in a situation that one or more sheets have been inserted to the predetermined position, a message for a user to remove the one or more sheets on the display. 19. The image forming apparatus according to claim 18 , wherein the one or more processors display, in a situation that one or more sheets have been inserted to the predetermined position, the message at a predetermined timing. 20. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets to a finisher having a stapling unit, wherein the stapling unit is capable of stapling the sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is capable of stapling one or more sheets inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position at which the finisher is able to detect the inserted one or more sheets, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a display; and one or more processors configured to: stop power supply to the finisher based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein power supply to the finisher is not stopped even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that one or more sheets have been inserted to the predetermined position; and display, in a situation that one or more sheets have been inserted to the predetermined position, a message for a user to remove the one or more sheets on the display. 21. The image forming apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein the image forming apparatus conveys the sheets to the finisher one by one. 22. The image forming apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein the predetermined position is a position at which the stapling unit is capable to stapling the inserted one or more sheets. 23. The image forming apparatus according to claim 20 , wherein the one or more processors display, in a situation that one or more sheets have been insert
