What is claimed is: 1. An ambulance cot loading and unloading system for an emergency vehicle, said ambulance cot loading and unloading system comprising: a base for mounting in the emergency vehicle; an arm mounted for linear movement along said base, said arm configured to support a cot while the cot is being loaded into or unloaded from the emergency vehicle; an indicator mounted relative to said arm; and a control system in communication with said indicator and configured to generate a status indication of said cot loading and unloading system at said indicator. 2. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 1 , wherein said indicator indicates an operational function of said cot loading and unloading system. 3. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 1 , further comprising a latch to latch a cot relative to said cot loading and unloading system. 4. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 3 , wherein said control system is configured to detect a state of said latch. 5. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 4 , wherein said latch is configured to latch the cot relative to said arm. 6. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 5 , further comprising a sensor to detect the state of said latch, and wherein said control system is in communication with said sensor to detect the state of said latch and to generate a status indication of said latch at said indicator. 7. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 1 , further comprising a latch releasably latching said arm relative to said base. 8. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 7 , wherein control system is configured to detect a state of said latch. 9. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 8 , further comprising a sensor to detect the state of said latch, and wherein said control system is communication with said sensor to detect the state of said latch and to generate a status indication of said latch at said indicator. 10. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 1 , wherein said indicator includes an LED. 11. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 1 , further comprising a trolley, said trolley including said arm and mounted for linear movement along said base, and said indicator being mounted to said trolley. 12. The ambulance cot and cot loading and unloading system according to claim 1 , wherein said control system includes user input at said trolley. 13. An ambulance cot loading and unloading system for an emergency vehicle, said ambulance cot loading and unloading system comprising: a base for mounting in the emergency vehicle; an arm mounted for linear movement along said base, said arm configured to support a cot while the cot is being loaded into or unloaded from the emergency vehicle; a sensor to detect a state of a component of said cot loading and unloading system; a plurality of indicators mounted relative to said arm; and a control system in communication with said sensor and said indicators and operable to detect the state of the component based on said sensor, and said control system further configured to provide status indication of said component at at least one of said indicators. 14. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 13 , wherein at least one of said indicators indicates operational functions of said cot loading and unloading system. 15. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 13 , further comprising a latch to latch a cot relative to said arm. 16. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 15 , wherein said component comprises said latch to latch a cot relative to said arm. 17. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 13 , further comprising a drive mechanism for moving said arm. 18. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 17 , wherein said control system is configured to sense weight on said arm, and said control system further configured to control the drive mechanism based on the weight sensed on said arm. 19. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 13 , further comprising a latch to latch said arm relative to said base. 20. The ambulance cot loading and unloading system according to claim 19 , wherein said component comprises said latch to latch said arm relative to said base.
