An apparatus comprises a shaft, an expandable dilator, and at least one ventilation pathway. The shaft defines a longitudinal axis and comprises a distal and proximal ends with at least one shaft lumen. The expandable dilator comprises body with its own proximal and distal ends. The body is configured to transition between a contracted state and an expanded state. The body is configured to dilate a Eustachian tube of a patient in the expanded state. The at least one ventilation pathway is configured to provide ventilation from the distal end of the body to the proximal end of the body when the body is in the expanded state. In some examples, the ventilation pathway comprises a set of transversely oriented vent openings formed through the shaft. In some other examples, the ventilation pathway comprises a space defined between one or more radially outwardly protruding features of the expandable dilator.

We claim: 1. A dilator assembly, comprising: (a) a shaft defining a longitudinal axis, wherein the shaft comprises a first distal end and a first proximal end, wherein the shaft defines a first lumen; (b) a dilator located on the shaft between the first distal end and the first proximal end, wherein the dilator extends between a second proximal end and a second distal end, wherein the dilator comprises an inflatable body configured to transition between a contracted state and an expanded state; and (c) a venting body associated with, yet detached from, an exterior of the inflatable body, wherein the venting body extends at least along the exterior of the inflatable body, while parallel with the longitudinal axis, from the second proximal end and the second distal end, wherein a portion of the venting body is proximal to the dilator, wherein the venting body comprises an open proximal end located at a longitudinal position between the first proximal end of the shaft and the second proximal end of the dilator, wherein the portion of the venting body is laterally spaced away from the shaft and the dilator, wherein the venting body, while extending distally past the second distal end, is configured to define a venting pathway between the second proximal end and the second distal end of the inflatable body while the inflatable body is in the expanded state. 2. The dilator assembly of claim 1 , wherein the inflatable body is configured to dilate a Eustachian tube of a patient in the expanded state. 3. The dilator assembly of claim 1 , wherein the venting body comprises a tube. 4. The dilator assembly of claim 3 , wherein the tube defines a second lumen, wherein at least a section of the second lumen defines the venting pathway. 5. The dilator assembly of claim 4 , wherein the tube extends between a third proximal end and a third distal end, wherein the second lumen extends from the third proximal end to the third distal end. 6. The dilator assembly of claim 5 , wherein the third distal end of the second lumen is distal in relation to the second distal end of the inflatable body. 7. The dilator assembly of claim 6 , wherein the third proximal end of the second lumen is proximal in relation to the second proximal end of the inflatable body. 8. The dilator assembly of 1 , wherein an exterior portion of the venting body and an exterior portion of the inflatable body define the venting pathway. 9. The dilator assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first lumen extends distally past the inflatable body. 10. The dilator assembly of claim 1 , wherein the venting body is non-coaxial relative to the inflatable body. 11. The dilator assembly of claim 1 , wherein the inflatable body comprises a first outer diameter and a second outer diameter, wherein the first outer diameter and the second outer diameter are different sizes. 12. The dilator assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first lumen terminates at the first distal end of the shaft. 13. A dilator assembly, comprising: (a) a shaft comprising a first distal end and a first proximal end, wherein the shaft defines a first lumen; (b) a dilator located on the shaft, wherein the dilator extends between a second proximal end and a second distal end, wherein the second distal end of the dilator is proximal relative to the first distal end of the shaft, wherein the dilator comprises an inflatable body configured to transition between a contracted state and an expanded state; and (c) a venting body extending along an exterior of the inflatable body such that the venting body extends parallel with the dilator in the expanded state, wherein the venting body extends distally past the exterior of the inflatable body and the first distal end of the shaft, wherein the venting body, while extending distally past the inflatable body, is configured to define a venting pathway between the second proximal end and the second distal end of the inflatable body while the inflatable body is in the expanded state, wherein the venting body comprises an open proximal end located at a longitudinal position between the first proximal end of the shaft and the second proximal end of the dilator. 14. The dilator assembly of claim 13 , wherein the venting body comprises a hollow tube. 15. The dilator assembly of claim 13 , wherein the venting body extends proximally past the exterior of the inflatable body. 16. The dilator assembly of claim 13 , wherein the venting body further defines a second lumen, wherein at least a portion of the second lumen defines the venting pathway. 17. A dilator assembly, comprising: (a) a shaft defining a longitudinal axis, wherein the shaft comprises a first distal end and a first proximal end; (b) a dilator located on the shaft extending along a dilator axis, wherein the dilator extends between a second proximal end and a second distal end, wherein the dilator comprises an inflatable body configured to transition between a contracted state and an expanded state; and (c) a venting body associated with an exterior of the inflatable body while extending parallel with the dilator axis, wherein the venting body extends both proximally and distally past the exterior of the inflatable body into an open proximal end and an open distal end, respectively, wherein the open distal end of the venting body extends distally relative to the dilator along a path that is parallel with, yet laterally spaced away from, the shaft of the dilator assembly, wherein the venting body, while extending distally past the inflatable body, is configured to define a venting pathway between the second proximal end and the second distal end of the inflatable body while the inflatable body is in the expanded state, wherein the venting body comprises an open proximal end located at a longitudinal position between the first proximal end of the shaft and the second proximal end of the dilator. 18. The dilator assembly of claim 17 , wherein the venting body further comprises a tube.
