What is claimed is: 1. An in vivo method of detecting cancer cells, using a stain, the method of detecting cancer cells comprising: 1) applying the stain to the cells in vivo, and 2) distinguishing normal cells and cancer cells based on a difference in cell staining intensity, using a multiphoton laser microscope, wherein said stain specifically stains cancer cells in contrast to normal cells, and wherein the stain comprises curcumin.
