Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embolic particles are described. The particles are reaction products of a prepolymer solution including at least one polyether macromer and an appropriate monomer.

First claim

We claim: 1. An embolic system including: a composition including embolic particles having an organic polymer backbone including a reaction product of a prepolymer solution including: a poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylamide macromer, a poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate macromer, a poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate macromer, a poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylamide macromer, or a combination thereof; and at least one monomer, wherein the embolic particles are configured to be larger than an opening of a mesh of a medical device. 2. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is less than about 0.09 inches. 3. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is less than about 0.08 inches. 4. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is less than about 0.07 inches. 5. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is less than about 0.06 inches. 6. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is less than about 0.05 inches. 7. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the opening is less than about 0.04 inches. 8. The embolic system of claim 1 , wherein the medical device is a flow diverting stent. 9. The embolic composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition includes a visualization agent. 10. The embolic composition of claim 9 , wherein the visualization agent is particles of radiopaque materials or halogen containing monomers. 11. The embolic composition of claim 10 , wherein the halogen containing monomer is an iodine containing monomer. 12. The embolic composition of claim 11 , wherein the iodine containing monomer has a structure: 13. The embolic composition of claim 10 , wherein the particles of radiopaque materials include barium, bismuth, tantalum, platinum, and gold. 14. The embolic composition of claim 10 , wherein the particles of radiopaque materials include barium sulfate. 15. The embolic composition of claim 10 , wherein the particles of radiopaque materials include bismuth. 16. The embolic composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one monomer includes ionic groups. 17. The embolic composition of claim 16 , wherein the monomer containing ionic groups is sodium acrylate. 18. The embolic composition of claim 1 , wherein the prepolymer solution further includes a crosslinker. 19. The embolic composition of claim 18 , wherein the crosslinker has a structure: wherein each n is independently 1-20; wherein d, e, and f are each independently 1-20; or 20. The embolic composition of claim 1 , wherein the macromer is a crosslinker.
