Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods are disclosed that allow for providing targeted asset/advertisements for broadcast-wide programming feeds. The systems and methods allow network platforms to select among asset options provided with a content stream and/or replace assets in the content stream. In one arrangement, after selecting an asset, the asset is inserted into the content stream and the content stream is disseminated to subsequent network platforms (e.g., local platforms). At this time, the local platforms may insert local assets into the content stream in predetermined local asset insertion spots.

The invention claimed is: 1. An apparatus for use in connection with delivering assets to users of a broadcast network, said broadcast network primarily involving synchronized distribution of broadcast content to multiple users, comprising: an asset delivery system, of the broadcast network, for receiving a content stream including programming segments and at least first and second asset delivery opportunities, wherein a content of said first asset delivery opportunity is controlled by one or more first stakeholders authorized to control a first asset that is delivered in said first asset delivery opportunity, and wherein a content of said second asset delivery opportunity is controlled by one or more second stakeholders, different than said first stakeholders, who are authorized to control a second asset that is delivered in said second asset delivery opportunity; and one or more processors operative for: first securing access to said first asset delivery opportunity and said second asset delivery opportunity such that said first stakeholders control delivery of said first asset with respect to said first asset delivery opportunity and said second stakeholders control delivery of said second asset with respect to said second asset delivery opportunity; providing first and second authorizations for said first and second stakeholders, respectively, in connection with acquiring rights to deliver said first and second assets in said first and second asset delivery opportunities; in connection with said first authorization, first enabling said first stakeholders to select one or more first asset providers to provide at least two first asset options for said first asset delivery opportunity of said content stream; and in connection with said second authorization, second enabling said second stakeholders to select one or more second asset providers to provide at least two second asset options for said second asset delivery opportunity of said content stream; wherein said asset delivery system is operative to deliver said first asset of said first asset providers in said first asset delivery opportunity and said second asset of said second asset providers in said second asset delivery opportunity. 2. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said asset delivery system is further operative to provide metadata, in connection with said content stream, identifying said first and second asset delivery opportunities and enabling control of said contents of said first and second delivery opportunities by said first and second stakeholders, respectively. 3. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said first and second asset options are provided in synchrony with said content stream. 4. An apparatus as set forth in claim 3 , wherein at least one of said first and second asset options is provided in a parallel transmission band to said content stream. 5. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said at least one of said first and second asset options is forwarded to a user equipment device prior to delivery of said content stream to said user equipment device. 6. An apparatus as set forth in claim 2 , wherein said one or more processors are operative for encrypting said metadata prior to delivery to the asset delivery system. 7. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said asset delivery system is operative to insert content into each of said first and second asset delivery opportunities in said content stream. 8. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said one or more processors are further operative for: receiving network user information and using said network user information to select said first and second asset options. 9. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said one or more processors are further operative for receiving, at a platform of said broadcast network, report information reporting delivery of at least one of said first and second assets. 10. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein said first asset delivery opportunity is for a first geographical area and said second asset delivery opportunity is for a second geographical area that is larger than and encompasses the first geographical area. 11. An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 , wherein each of said first and second assets is inserted into said content stream after said content stream is transmitted from a programming source in said broadcast network.
