A master user equipment (UE) device may coordinate device-to-device (D2D) communications amongst a plurality of UE devices. For example, a UE device, which has been designated as a master UE device, may coordinate a D2D communication between a first UE device and a second UE device. The master UE device may be a UE device that obtains an indication that it is a master UE device that is to coordinate D2D communications amongst the plurality of UE devices. In some embodiments, the coordinating the D2D communication may be on behalf of a network and/or to facilitate wireless communication between the network and at least one of the plurality of UE devices.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) device, the method comprising: receiving an indication that the UE device is a master UE device; subsequent to receiving the indication, coordinating device-to-device (D2D) communications amongst a plurality of UE devices, the plurality of UE devices including the master UE device; wherein coordinating the D2D communications comprises: controlling use of a wireless channel to mitigate interference between a first D2D communication and a second D2D communication by performing operations including: instructing a first helper UE to use a first resource to perform the first D2D communication with a first target UE, wherein the first helper UE is a UE that assists with a first wireless communication between the first target UE and a base station via the first D2D communication; instructing a second helper UE to use a different second resource to perform the second D2D communication with a second target UE, wherein the second helper UE is a UE that assists with a second wireless communication between the second target UE and the base station via the second D2D communication. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein all resources available for sending the D2D communications are acquired from a network. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the master UE device acquires, from the network, an indication of the first resource and the second resource. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource is a first time resource and the second resource is a second time resource, and wherein controlling use of the wireless channel comprises: implementing a time-division multiple access (TDMA) protocol including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first time resource to perform the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second time resource perform the second D2D communication. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource is a first frequency resource and the second resource is a second frequency resource, and wherein controlling use of the wireless channel comprises: implementing a frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) protocol including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first frequency resource to perform the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second frequency resource to perform the second D2D communication. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource is a first code division multiple access (CDMA) code and the second resource is a second CDMA code, and wherein controlling use of the wireless channel comprises: implementing a CDMA channel access scheme including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first CDMA code to modulate the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second CDMA code to modulate the second D2D communication. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource is a first radiation pattern and the second resource is a second radiation pattern, and wherein controlling use of the wireless channel comprises: implementing a space-division multiple access (SDMA) channel access scheme including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first radiation pattern for the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second radiation pattern for the second D2D communication. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource is at least one of: a first time resource, a first frequency resource, a first CDMA code, or a first radiation pattern; and wherein the second resource is at least one of: a second time resource, a second frequency resource, a second CDMA code, or a second radiation pattern. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein there is no negotiation for channel access for sending the first D2D communication or the second D2D communication. 10. A user equipment (UE) device comprising: processing circuitry configured to implement a device-to-device (D2D) coordinator, the D2D coordinator to: receive an indication that the UE device is a master UE device; subsequent to receiving the indication, coordinate D2D communications amongst a plurality of UE devices, the plurality of UE devices including the master UE device; wherein the D2D coordinator is to coordinate the D2D communications by performing operations including: controlling use of a wireless channel to mitigate interference between a first D2D communication and a second D2D communication by: instructing a first helper UE to use a first resource to perform the first D2D communication with a first target UE, wherein the first helper UE is a UE that assists with a first wireless communication between the first target UE and a base station via the first D2D communication; instructing a second helper UE to use a different second resource to perform the second D2D communication with a second target UE, wherein the second helper UE is a UE that assists with a second wireless communication between the second target UE and the base station via the second D2D communication. 11. The UE device of claim 10 , wherein all resources available for sending the D2D communications are to be acquired from a network. 12. The UE device of claim 11 , wherein the master UE device is to acquire, from the network, an indication of the first resource and the second resource. 13. The UE device of claim 10 , wherein the first resource is a first time resource and the second resource is a second time resource, and wherein the D2D coordinator is to control use of the wireless channel by performing operations including: implementing a time-division multiple access (TDMA) protocol including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first time resource to perform the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second time resource to perform the second D2D communication. 14. The UE device of claim 10 , wherein the first resource is a first frequency resource and the second resource is a second frequency resource, and wherein the D2D coordinator is to control use of the wireless channel by performing operations including: implementing a frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) protocol including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first frequency resource to perform the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second frequency resource to perform the second D2D communication. 15. The UE device of claim 10 , wherein the first resource is a first code division multiple access (CDMA) code and the second resource is a second CDMA code, and wherein the D2D coordinator is to control use of the wireless channel by performing operations including: implementing a CDMA channel access scheme including instructing the first helper UE device to use the first CDMA code to modulate the first D2D communication, and instructing the second helper UE device to use the second CDMA code to modulate the second D2D communication. 16.
