Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The current document is directed to an integrated cloud-management facility, or subsystem, that incorporates an automated-application-deployment-facility integrator that incorporates one or more automated-application-deployment facilities into the cloud-management facility. The automated-application-deployment-facility integrator allows users of the cloud-management facility to access one or more automated-application-deployment facilities within the context of the cloud-management facility. The automated-application-deployment-facility integrator provides to system managers and administrators, through the cloud-management facility, a wider range of functionalities and capabilities than is provided by a cloud-management facility that includes only a single automated-application-deployment facility, or subsystem.

What is claimed is: 1. A workflow-based cloud-management system incorporated within a cloud-computing facility having multiple servers, data-storage devices, and one or more internal networks, the workflow-based cloud-management system comprising: an automated-application-release-management subsystem; an infrastructure-management-and-administration subsystem; an automated-application-deployment integrator that includes an application programming interface, a service-provider interface, entrypoint-translation components, and entrypoint-implementation components; and one or more automated-application-deployment subsystems that interface to the service-provider interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator. 2. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the automated-application-release-management subsystem comprises: a dashboard user interface; an automated-application-release-management controller; an interface to a workflow-execution engine; and an artifact-storage-and-management subsystem. 3. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the infrastructure-management-and-administration subsystem comprises: one or more user service catalogs; one or more services and corresponding service implementations; fabrics that abstract virtual cloud-computing-facility resources, including virtual processors, virtual networks, and virtual data-storage devices that, in turn, abstract physical cloud-computing-facility resources, including processors, networks, and data-storage devices; and a graphical user interface through which users, including system administrators, distribute resources and services to users and groups of users, configure the cloud-computing-facility, and manage the cloud-computing-facility. 4. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the automated-application-release-management subsystem and the infrastructure-management-and-administration subsystem include control logic at least partially implemented as workflows that are executed by a workflow-execution-engine subsystem. 5. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the application-deployment subsystems each comprises an integrated application-deployment facility that: accesses one or more artifact repositories that store and logically organize binary files and other artifacts used to build complex cloud-resident applications; and accesses automated tools that are used, along with workflows, to develop specific automated application-deployment tools that deploy cloud-resident applications within the cloud-computing facility. 6. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the application programming interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator includes entrypoints that represent access points to the application-deployment functionality, or a subset of the application-deployment functionality, access to which is provided by the entrypoints in the application programming interfaces of the one or more automated-application-deployment subsystems that interface to the service-provider interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator. 7. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 6 wherein the application programming interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator includes entrypoints that represent access points to functionality implemented, at least is part, within the automated-application-deployment integrator. 8. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 7 wherein a portion of the functionality implemented, at least is part, within the automated-application-deployment integrator is not implemented in any of the one or more automated-application-deployment subsystems that interface to the service-provider interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator. 9. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 7 wherein a portion of the functionality implemented, at least is part, within the automated-application-deployment integrator is implemented in only a proper subset any of two or more of the automated-application-deployment subsystems that interface to the service-provider interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator. 10. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the service-provider interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator includes those entrypoints of the application programming interfaces of the one or more automated-application-deployment subsystems that are called by the entrypoint-translation components and entrypoint-implementation components of the automated-application-deployment integrator. 11. The workflow-based cloud-management system of claim 1 wherein the workflow-based cloud-management system provides an automated-application-deployment-subsystem selection feature using which a system administrator selects a particular automated-application-deployment subsystem for supporting operation of the automated-application-release-management subsystem and infrastructure-management-and-administration subsystem of the workflow-based cloud-management system. 12. A method that interfaces two or more automated-application-deployment subsystems to an automated-application-release-management-subsystem component and an infrastructure-management-and-administration-subsystem component of a workflow-based cloud-management system incorporated within a cloud-computing facility having multiple servers, data-storage devices, and one or more internal networks, the method comprising: installing, within the cloud-computing facility, a workflow-based cloud-management system that includes the automated-application-release-management subsystem, the infrastructure-management-and-administration subsystem, and an automated-application-deployment integrator; and selecting one of two or more automated-application-deployment subsystems to support operation of the workflow-based cloud-management system. 13. The method of claim 12 wherein the two or more application-deployment subsystems each comprises an integrated application-deployment facility that: accesses one or more artifact repositories that store and logically organize binary files and other artifacts used to build complex cloud-resident applications; and accesses automated tools that are used, along with workflows, to develop specific automated application-deployment tools that deploy cloud-resident applications within the cloud-computing facility. 14. The method of claim 12 wherein the automated-application-deployment integrator comprises: an application programming interface, a service-provider interface, entrypoint-translation components, and entrypoint-implementation components. 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the application programming interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator includes entrypoints that represent access points to the application-deployment functionality, or a subset of the application-deployment functionality, access to which is provided by the entrypoints in the application programming interfaces of the one or more automated-application-deployment subsystems that interface to the service-provider interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator. 16. The method of claim 15 wherein the application programming interface of the automated-application-deployment integrator includes entrypoints that represent access points to functionality implemented, at least is part, within the automated-application-deployment integrator. 17. The method of claim 16 w
