Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

This disclosure provides connectors for smart windows. A smart window may incorporate an optically switchable pane. In one aspect, a window unit includes an insulated glass unit including an optically switchable pane. A wire assembly may be attached to the edge of the insulated glass unit and may include wires in electrical communication with electrodes of the optically switchable pane. A floating connector may be attached to a distal end of the wire assembly. The floating connector may include a flange and a nose, with two holes in the flange for affixing the floating connector to a first frame. The nose may include a terminal face that present two exposed contacts of opposite polarity. Pre-wired spacers improve fabrication efficiency and seal integrity of insulated glass units. Electrical connection systems include those embedded in the secondary seal of the insulated glass unit.

What is claimed is: 1. A electrical connection system for a movable door or window movably engaged with a frame, the electrical connection system comprising: a chain guide configured to bend and pass back over itself while residing within a recess in the frame during movement of the movable door or window; and one or more wires residing within a body of the chain guide, the one or more wires configured for electrical communication between at least a power source and an optically switchable device in the movable door or window. 2. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the optically switchable device is an electrochromic device. 3. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the chain guide comprises a bend portion configured to allow the chain guide to pass back over itself and reside substantially parallel to the length of, and inside, the recess in the frame. 4. The electrical connection system of claim 2 , wherein the bend portion has a constant radius. 5. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the chain guide comprises a non-electrically conducting material. 6. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the chain guide comprises plastic. 7. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the slot has a rail within which the chain guide resides. 8. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more wires are in electrical communication with a controller configured to control the optically switchable device. 9. The electrical connection system of claim 8 , wherein the controller is an onboard controller residing within a secondary seal of the movable door or window. 10. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the chain guide maintains the direction of one end of the one or more wires while the movable door or window is moved along the slot. 11. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the chain guide is configured for connection between a frame bracket and a base bracket. 12. The electrical connection system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more wires comprises a connector cable. 13. A movable door or window assembly, comprising: a movable door or window comprising an optically switchable device; a frame comprising a slot, the movable door or window moveably engaged with the slot; and a chain guide configured to bend and pass back over itself while residing within a recess in the frame during movement of the movable door or window, the chain guide housing one or more wires residing within, the one or more wires configured for electrical communication between at least a power source and the optically switchable device. 14. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the optically switchable device is an electrochromic device. 15. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the chain guide comprises a bend portion configured to allow the chain guide to pass back over itself and reside substantially parallel to the length of, and inside, the recess in the frame. 16. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the chain guide comprises a non-electrically conducting material. 17. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the chain guide comprises plastic. 18. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , further comprising a controller configured to control the optically switchable device, wherein the one or more wires are in electrical communication with the controller. 19. The movable door or window assembly of claim 18 , wherein the controller is an onboard controller residing within a secondary seal of the movable door or window. 20. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the chain guide maintains the direction of one end of the one or more wires while the movable door or window is moved along the slot. 21. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the chain guide is configured to connect between a frame bracket and a base bracket. 22. The movable door or window assembly of claim 13 , wherein the one or more wires comprises a connector cable.
