What is claimed is: 1. An aerogel composition comprising (i) a fibrous structure, (ii) a silica aerogel material within the fibrous structure, and (iii) a smoke suppressing filler, the smoke suppressing filler comprising hydroxides, borates, silicates, carbonates, oxides, or combinations thereof, at least a portion of the smoke suppressing filler being in hydrated form, wherein the smoke suppressing filler comprises particles embedded within the aerogel. 2. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the particles of smoke suppressing filler have a size of less than 100μm. 3. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is hydrophobic. 4. The aerogel composition of claim 3 , wherein the silica aerogel material includes covalently attached hydrophobic materials. 5. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein a majority of the smoke suppressing filler is in hydrated form. 6. The aerogel compositions of claim 1 , wherein the hydroxides comprise metal hydroxides. 7. The aerogel composition of claim 6 , wherein the metal hydroxides comprise magnesium hydroxide. 8. The aerogel composition of claim 6 , wherein the metal hydroxides comprise aluminum hydroxide. 9. The aerogel composition of claim 6 , wherein the metal hydroxides are present at a level of 1 to 40 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 10. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the borates comprise zinc borate. 11. The aerogel composition of claim 10 , wherein the zinc borate is present at a level of 1 to 40 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 12. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the silicates comprise aluminum silicate. 13. The aerogel composition of claim 12 , wherein the aluminum silicate is present at a level of less than 50 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 14. The aerogel composition of claim 12 , wherein the aluminum silicate is present at a level of 5 to 50 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 15. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the carbonates comprise a hydrated metal carbonate. 16. The aerogel composition of claim 15 , wherein the hydrated metal carbonate is present at a level of 1 to 40 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 17. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the oxides comprise aluminum oxide. 18. The aerogel composition of claim 17 , wherein the aluminum oxide comprises aluminum oxide hydroxide. 19. The aerogel composition of claim 17 , wherein the aluminum oxide is present at a level of less than 50 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 20. The aerogel composition of claim 17 , wherein the aluminum oxide is present at a level of 5 to 50 percent by weight of the aerogel composite. 21. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the fibrous structure is in a woven, nonwoven, mat, felt, batting, or a combination thereof. 22. The aerogel composition of claim 1 , wherein the silica aerogel material includes a silica aerogel in which the smoke suppressing filler is embedded, where the smoke suppressing filler is distinct from the silica aerogel. 23. An aerogel composition comprising (i) a flexible reinforcing structure and (ii) a silica aerogel material within the reinforcing structure, the silica aerogel material comprising: (a) an aerogel material and (b) a smoke suppressing filler, wherein the smoke suppressing filler comprises hydroxides, borates, silicates, carbonates, oxides, or combinations thereof; and at least a portion of the smoke suppressing filler being in hydrated form.
