Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Creating a shared communication channel in a group-based communication platform is described. A shared communication channel generation request associated with a first organization identifier and a second organization identifier can be received from a first client associated with the first organization identifier. A shared communication channel acceptance request can be sent to a second client associated with the second organization identifier. Based at least in part on receiving a shared communication channel acceptance notification, wherein the shared communication channel acceptance notification includes an electronic approval to associate the shared communication channel identifier with the first organization identifier and the second organization identifier, transmitting, to each of the first client and the second client, a shared group-based communication channel interface of the shared communication channel.

First claim

That which is claimed: 1. A computer-implemented method for creating a shared communication channel in a group-based communication platform, the computer-implemented method comprising: receiving, from a first client associated with a first organization identifier, a shared communication channel generation request associated with the first organization identifier and a second organization identifier, wherein the shared communication channel generation request is associated with a shared communication channel identifier; transmitting, to a second client associated with the second organization identifier, a shared communication channel acceptance request, wherein the shared communication channel acceptance request is associated with the shared communication channel identifier; receiving a shared communication channel acceptance notification, wherein the shared communication channel acceptance notification includes an electronic approval to associate the shared communication channel identifier with the first organization identifier and the second organization identifier; and transmitting, to each of the first client and the second client and based at least in part on receiving the shared communication channel acceptance notification, a shared group-based communication channel interface of the shared communication channel. 2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining that the first client and the second client are each associated with a non-administrator status indicator; transmitting, to a third client associated with the first organization identifier and a first administrator status indicator, a first shared communication channel approval request; transmitting, to a fourth client associated with the second organization identifier and a second administrator status indicator, a second shared communication channel approval request; receiving a first shared communication channel approval notification from the third client; and receiving a second shared communication channel approval notification from the fourth client, wherein transmitting the shared group-based communication channel interface to each of the first client and the second client is further based at least in part on receiving the first shared communication channel approval notification and the second shared communication channel approval notification. 3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining that the first client is associated with a non-administrator status indicator and the second client is associated with a first administrator status indicator; transmitting, to a third client associated with the first organization identifier and a second administrator status indicator, a shared communication channel approval request; and receiving a shared communication channel approval notification from the third client, wherein transmitting the shared group-based communication channel interface to each of the first client and the second client is further based at least in part on receiving the shared communication channel approval notification. 4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining that the first client is associated with a first administrator status indicator and the second client is associated with a non-administrator status indicator; transmitting, to a third client associated with the second organization identifier and a second administrator status indicator, a shared communication channel approval request; and receiving a shared communication channel approval notification from the third client, wherein transmitting the shared group-based communication channel interface to each of the first client and the second client is further based at least in part on receiving the shared communication channel approval notification. 5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first client and the second client are each associated with an administrator status indicator. 6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first organization identifier is associated with a first organization and the second organization identifier is associated with a second organization that is different than the first organization, and wherein the shared communication channel is externally shared. 7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first client and the second client are each permitted to at least one of post or view one or more messages posted to the shared communication channel. 8. A system comprising: one or more processors; and one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising: receiving, from a first client associated with a first organization identifier, a shared communication channel generation request associated with the first organization identifier and a second organization identifier, wherein the shared communication channel generation request is associated with a shared communication channel identifier; transmitting, to a second client associated with the second organization identifier, a shared communication channel acceptance request, wherein the shared communication channel acceptance request is associated with the shared communication channel identifier; receiving a shared communication channel acceptance notification, wherein the shared communication channel acceptance notification includes an electronic approval to associate the shared communication channel identifier with the first organization identifier and the second organization identifier; and transmitting, to each of the first client and the second client and based at least in part on receiving the shared communication channel acceptance notification, a shared group-based communication channel interface of the shared communication channel. 9. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising: determining that the first client and the second client are each associated with a non-administrator status indicator; transmitting, to a third client associated with the first organization identifier and a first administrator status indicator, a first shared communication channel approval request; transmitting, to a fourth client associated with the second organization identifier and a second administrator status indicator, a second shared communication channel approval request; receiving a first shared communication channel approval notification from the third client; and receiving a second shared communication channel approval notification from the fourth client, wherein transmitting the shared group-based communication channel interface to each of the first client and the second client is further based at least in part on receiving the first shared communication channel approval notification and the second shared communication channel approval notification. 10. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising: determining that the first client is associated with a non-administrator status indicator and the second client is associated with a first administrator status indicator; transmitting, to a third client associated with the first organization identifier and a second administrator status indicator, a shared communication channel approval request; and receiving a shared communication channel approval notification from the third client, wherein transmitting the shared group-based communication channel interface to each of the first client and the second client is further based at least in part on receiving the shared communication channel approval notification. 11.
