Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Subject matter are aqueous, low-VOC/SVOC universal pigment preparations comprising a pigment component; a water-soluble, nonionic, surface-active additive comprising a copolymer formed from a vinyl monomer and from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer selected from the group consisting of monocarboxylic esters, dicarboxylic esters, monocarboxamides, and dicarboxamides, the vinyl monomer and/or the ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing an N-containing group with pigment affinity; a phosphoric or phosphonic ester, and optionally customary additives. The aqueous pigment preparations are suitable for the coloring of inks, paints, and renders, especially in metering systems at the point of sale or in in-plant tinting systems.

The invention claimed is: 1. A pigment preparation, comprising: (A) 1 to 80 wt % of a pigment component which comprises a pigment and optionally a filler; (B) 0.01 to 10 wt % of a water-soluble, nonionic, surface-active additive comprising a copolymer formed from a vinyl monomer selected from the group consisting of 4-aminostyrene, 4-dimethylaminostyrene, 4-vinylpyridine, 2-vinylpyridine, 1-vinylimidazole, vinylpyrrolidone, and vinylcaprolactam; and from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer selected from the group consisting of a monocarboxylic ester, a dicarboxylic ester, a monocarboxamide, and a dicarboxamide, wherein the vinyl monomer, the ethylenically unsaturated monomer, or both comprises an N-containing group with pigment affinity; (C) 0.01 to 8 wt % of a phosphoric ester and/or a phosphonic ester; (D) 0 to 20 wt % of an additional additive customary for aqueous pigment preparations; and (E) water, where component (C) is formed by an additive based on lecithin, an anionic additive based on phosphoric ester, a phosphonic ester of polyalkylene oxide, a combination thereof, or of reaction product of alkylene oxide or aryl-substituted alkylene oxide with an aliphatic amine, an aromatic amine, an aliphatic carboxylic acid, an aliphatic carboxamide, a salt thereof, or an ester thereof, and where a sum of percentages by weight of components (A) to (E) is 100 wt %. 2. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein an amount of the vinyl monomer and/or the ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising the N-containing group with pigment affinity in the copolymer of component (B) is 2 to 50 mol %. 3. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising the N-containing group with pigment affinity is an aminoalkyl (meth)acrylate selected from the group consisting of 2-dimethylaminoethyl acrylate, 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, 2-diethylaminoethyl acrylate, 2-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate, 2-tert-butylaminoethyl acrylate, 2-tert-butylaminoethyl methacrylate, and 3-dimethylaminopropylmethacrylamide. 4. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein the vinyl monomer and/or the ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the copolymer of component (B) comprises a polyether alcohol group or a derivative thereof. 5. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein component (C) is a phosphoric ester of formula: [RO—(C 2 -C 3 -alkylene oxide) y ] x -PO(OH) 3-x wherein R is each independently linear or branched C 8 -C 22 alkyl, C 8 -C 22 -alkenyl or phenyl which is optionally substituted by C 1 -C 12 -alkyl, styryl or methyl-substituted styryl, a (C 2 -C 3 -alkylene oxide) group is ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide, x is 1 or 2, and y is 1-100. 6. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein component (C) comprises: a lecithin or a soy lecithin. 7. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein component (D) comprises: 0.01 to 15 wt % of a humectant. 8. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein component (D) comprises: 0.01 to 5 wt % of a nonionic polyether dispersant. 9. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , comprising: a volatile organic compound content of less than 1000 ppm. 10. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , comprising: a semi-volatile oraanic compound content of less than 5000 ppm. 11. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , which is present in the form of a paste. 12. The pigment preparation according to claim 1 , which is substantially free from an alkylphenol ethoxylate. 13. A method for producing the pigment preparation according to claim 1 , introducing all components (A) to (C) and at least part of component (D) into water, thereby forming a suspension wet comminuting the suspension, and optionally adding a remaining amount of component (D) to the suspension. 14. A method for coloring an article, coloring the article with the pigment preparation according to claim 1 , wherein the article is a paint and/or an ink.
