Official abstract text for this publication.
A seat assembly includes a mounting plate and a base frame rotatable mounted on the mounting plate by a swivel mechanism for swiveling the seat assembly between forward-facing and rearward-facing configurations. A seat portion is operably coupled to the base frame and includes a front edge. The seat portion can be pivoted between use and upright non-use positions. The seat assembly includes a first rotational footprint when the seat portion is in the use position and a second rotational footprint that is less than the first rotational footprint when the seat portion is in the upright non-use position. The second rotational footprint is intended to accommodate swiveling of the seat assembly between the forward-facing and rearward-facing configurations within a vehicle interior.

What is claimed is: 1. A seat assembly, comprising: a mounting plate; a swivel mechanism having a base portion mounted to the mounting plate, wherein the swivel mechanism further includes an upper portion rotatably supported on the base portion for rotation about a pivot axis; a base frame operably coupled to the upper portion of the swivel mechanism for rotation therewith; a seat portion operably coupled to the base frame and operable between a use position and an upright non-use position, wherein the seat portion includes a first rotational footprint when the seat portion is in the use position and a second rotational footprint that is less than the first rotational footprint when the seat portion is in the upright non-use position; a lift mechanism operably coupled between the base frame and the seat portion, wherein the lift mechanism is configured to adjust a vertical position of the seat portion relative to the base frame; and an actuator operably coupled between the lift mechanism and the seat portion for driving the seat portion between the use position and the upright non-use position. 2. The seat assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first rotational footprint includes a radius measured between the pivot axis of the swivel mechanism and a front edge of the seat portion. 3. The seat assembly of claim 2 , wherein the second rotational footprint includes a radius measured between the pivot axis of the swivel mechanism and a perimeter edge of the base frame. 4. The seat assembly of claim 3 , wherein the front edge of the seat portion is vertically juxtaposed over the base frame when the seat portion is in the upright non-use position. 5. The seat assembly of claim 1 , including: one or more engagement members upwardly extending from the mounting plate and having downwardly opening channels. 6. The seat assembly of claim 5 , including: one or more hook members downwardly extending from the base frame and having upwardly turned end portions configured to be received in the downwardly opening channels of the one or more engagement members of the mounting plate. 7. The seat assembly of claim 6 , wherein the upwardly turned end portions of the one or more hook members of the base frame rotate with the base frame for selective engagement between adjacent engagement members of the mounting plate. 8. The seat assembly of claim 1 , including: an actuator operably coupled between the base portion and the upper portion of the swivel mechanism for rotating the seat portion within the second rotational footprint. 9. A seat assembly, comprising: a base frame; a lift mechanism having first and second lift members operably coupled to one another and the base frame; a seat frame supported on the lift mechanism and having a rear portion pivotally coupled to upper brackets of the lift mechanism; and an actuator operably coupled between the lift mechanism and the seat frame, wherein the seat frame is operable between a use position and an upright non-use position as powered by the actuator. 10. The seat assembly of claim 9 , wherein the lift mechanism includes an upper limit of travel in a range from 60 mm to 100 mm when moving the seat frame between a lowered position and a raised position. 11. The seat assembly of claim 9 , wherein the actuator is pivotally coupled to the lift mechanism and includes a drive shaft threadingly coupled to a threaded member disposed on the seat frame. 12. The seat assembly of claim 9 , including: a swivel mechanism operably coupled to the base frame for moving the seat assembly between forward-facing and rearward-facing configurations. 13. The seat assembly of claim 12 , wherein the seat assembly includes a first rotational footprint when the seat frame is in the use position and a second rotational footprint that is less than the first rotational footprint when the seat frame is in the upright non-use position.
