Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems, devices, apparatuses, components, methods, and techniques for repetitive-motion activity enhancement based upon media content selection are provided. An example media-playback device for enhancement of a repetitive-motion activity includes a media-output device that plays media content items, a plurality of media content selection engines, and a repetitive-activity enhancement mode selection engine. The plurality of media content selection engines includes a cadence-based media content selection engine and an enhancement program engine. The cadence-based media content selection engine is configured to select media content items based on a cadence associated with the repetitive-motion activity. The enhancement program engine is configured to select a media content items according to an enhancement program for the repetitive-motion activity. The repetitive-activity enhancement mode selection engine is configured to select a media content selection engine from the plurality of engines and to cause the media-output device to playback media content items selected by the selected engine.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of enhancing a repetitive-motion activity, the method comprising: acquiring a cadence of a user associated with a repetitive-motion activity; displaying a content playback screen upon acquiring the cadence of the user, wherein the content playback screen includes a playlist information message, a current media content item display panel, a current media content item information message, a cadence information message, and a pause control; communicating the acquired cadence to the user in the cadence information message; receiving media content items for playback based on the acquired cadence; determining whether the acquired cadence of the user has intentionally changed by determining whether an updated cadence is different from the acquired cadence by more than a predetermined threshold or the updated cadence is different from the acquired cadence for more than a predetermined duration; upon determining that the acquired cadence of the user has intentionally changed, changing the playback of the media content items by receiving different media content items for playback that are selected based on the updated cadence; and while the user performs the repetitive-motion activity, receiving a pause input from the pause control, the pause input triggering a pause in cadence acquisition without changing the playback of the media content items. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising instructing the user to start the repetitive-motion activity by providing a message for the user to start the repetitive-motion activity, and continuously acquiring the cadence of the user while providing the message. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pause control operates to receive the pause input from the user, the pause control being displayed adjacent to the cadence information message. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein upon acquiring the cadence, the method further includes indicating that a physiological measurement has been acquired. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the content playback screen displays the acquired physiological measurement. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a repetitive-motion activity summary screen upon completion of the repetitive motion activity, the repetitive-motion activity summary screen identifying media content items played back during the repetitive motion activity, and providing an input that upon actuation by the user operates to store the media content items that were played back during the repetitive-motion activity. 7. A media-playback device for enhancement of a repetitive-motion activity, the media-playback device comprising: a media-output device that plays back media content items; a processing device; and a computer readable data storage device storing data instructions that, when executed by the processing device, cause the processing device to: provide a message for the user to start the repetitive-motion activity; continuously acquire the cadence of the user while providing the message, the cadence being associated with performance of the repetitive-motion activity; communicate the acquired cadence to the user; receive media content items for playback based on the acquired cadence; determine whether the acquired cadence of the user has intentionally changed; upon determining that the acquired cadence of the user has intentionally changed, changing the playback of the media content items by receiving different media content items for playback that are selected based on an updated cadence; and during performance of the repetitive-motion activity, detecting an event triggering a pause in changing the playback of the media content items. 8. The media-playback device of claim 7 , further comprising data instructions that, when executed by the processing device, cause the processing device to display a content playback screen upon acquiring the cadence of the user, wherein the content playback screen includes a playlist information message, a previous media content item display panel, a current media content item display panel, a next media content item display panel, a current media content item information message, a dislike control, a like control, a cadence information message, and a pause control. 9. The media-playback device of claim 7 , wherein the event is a pause input received from the user actuating a pause control displayed on a content playback screen. 10. The media-playback device of claim 7 , wherein the event is a change in cadence that is less than a predetermined amount or a change in cadence that has a duration that is less than a predetermined duration. 11. The media-playback device of claim 7 , further comprising data instructions that, when executed by the processing device, cause the processing device to display a content playback screen that displays the media content items, the acquired cadence, and an acquired physiological measurement. 12. The media-playback device of claim 7 , further comprising data instructions that, when executed by the processing device, cause the processing device to display a repetitive-motion activity summary screen upon completion of the repetitive motion activity, the repetitive-motion activity summary screen identifying media content items played back during the repetitive motion activity, and providing an input that upon actuation by the user operates to store the media content items that were played back during the repetitive-motion activity. 13. A non-transitory computer readable storage device storing data instructions, which when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to: acquire a cadence of a user associated with the repetitive-motion activity; communicate the acquired cadence to the user; receive media content items for playback based on the acquired cadence; determine whether the acquired cadence of the user has intentionally changed; upon determining that the acquired cadence of the user has intentionally changed, change the playback of the media content items by receiving different media content items for playback that are selected based on an updated cadence; while the user performs the repetitive-motion activity, receive a pause input triggering a pause in cadence acquisition without changing the playback of the media content items; and display a repetitive-motion activity summary screen upon completion of the repetitive motion activity, the repetitive-motion activity summary screen identifying media content items played back during the repetitive motion activity, and providing an input that upon actuation by the user operates to store the media content items that were played back during the repetitive-motion activity. 14. The computer readable storage device of claim 13 , further comprising data instructions that cause the processing device to instruct the user to start the repetitive-motion activity by providing a message for the user to start the repetitive-motion activity, and continuously acquire the cadence of the user while providing the message. 15. The computer readable storage device of claim 13 , further comprising data instructions that cause the processing device to display a content playback screen upon acquiring the cadence of the user, wherein the content playback screen includes a playlist information message, a previous media content item display panel, a current media content item display panel, a next media content item display panel, a current media content item information message, a dislike control, a like control, a cadence information message, and a pause control. 16.
