Official abstract text for this publication.
A method includes injection molding a preform using a two phase injection system having a first phase in which a material is injected into the preform and a second phase in which the material is injected into the preform. The preform is disposed in a mold. The preform is blow molded into an intermediate article. The intermediate article is trimmed to form a finished container. The first phase includes injecting a material into the preform to form a single layer of the preform and the second phase includes injecting the material to form inner and outer layers and an intermediate layer between the inner and outer layers. The inner and outer layers include the material and the intermediate layer includes at least one additive. Finished containers are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A finished container comprising: a top section comprising a wall having only one layer made entirely from polyethylene terephythalate; and a bottom section comprising an outer layer, an intermediate layer and an inner layer, the bottom section being connected with the top section such that the outer layer is continuous with an outer surface of the wall and the inner layer being is with an opposite inner surface of the wall, the intermediate layer comprising an additive. 2. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the layer of the top section is free of the additive. 3. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the layer of the top section, the outer layer and the inner layer each consist of polyethylene terephythalate. 4. The finished container recited in claim 3 , wherein the intermediate layer consists of the additive. 5. The finished container recited in claim 4 , wherein the additive is selected from the group consisting of passive oxygen scavengers, active oxygen scavengers, colorants, calcium carbonate fillers and foaming agents. 6. The finished container recited in claim 3 , wherein the intermediate layer consists of polyethylene terephythalate and the additive. 7. The finished container recited in claim 6 , wherein the additive is selected from the group consisting of passive oxygen scavengers, active oxygen scavengers, colorants, calcium carbonate fillers and foaming agents. 8. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the additive is present in the finished container in an amount between 0.1 wt. % and 20.0 wt. % of the finished container. 9. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the additive is present in the finished container in an amount between 0.1 wt. % and 5.0wt. % of the finished container. 10. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the finished container has a crystallinity between about 15% and about 20%. 11. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the finished container has a crystallinity between about 18% and about 30%. 12. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the finished container has a crystallinity between about 20% and about 40%. 13. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the bottom section has a wall thickness defined by a thickness of the outer layer, a thickness of the inner layer and a thickness of the intermediate layer, the thickness of the intermediate layer comprising at least 20% of the wall thickness. 14. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the bottom section has a wall thickness defined by a thickness of the outer layer, a thickness of the inner layer and a thickness of the intermediate layer, the thickness of the intermediate layer comprising at least 50% of the wall thickness. 15. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the inner layer and the outer layer each have a first thickness, the intermediate layer having a second thickness that is less than the first thickness. 16. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the inner layer and the outer layer each have a first thickness, the intermediate layer having a second thickness that is greater than the first thickness. 17. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the top section comprises a threaded neck. 18. A finished container comprising: a top section comprising a wall having only one layer consisting of polyethylene terephythalate, the top section comprising a threaded neck; and a bottom section comprising an outer layer, an intermediate layer and an inner layer, the bottom section being connected with the top section such that the outer layer is continuous with an outer surface of the wall and the inner layer being is with an opposite inner surface of the wall, the outer layer and the inner layer each consisting of polyethylene terephythalate, the intermediate layer consisting of polyethylene terephythalate and an oxygen scavenger, wherein the inner layer and the outer layer each have a first thickness, the intermediate layer having a second thickness that is less than the first thickness, wherein the oxygen scavenger is present in the finished container in an amount between 0.1 wt. % and 5.0 wt. % of the finished container, and wherein the finished container has a crystallinity between about 20% and about 40%. 19. A finished container comprising: a top section comprising a wall having only one layer consisting of polyethylene terephythalate, the top section comprising a threaded neck; and a bottom section comprising an outer layer, an intermediate layer and an inner layer, the bottom section being connected with the top section such that the outer layer is continuous with an outer surface of the wall and the inner layer being is with an opposite inner surface of the wall, the outer layer and the inner layer each consisting of polyethylene terephythalate, the intermediate layer consisting of an oxygen scavenger, wherein the inner layer and the outer layer each have a first thickness, the intermediate layer having a second thickness that is less than the first thickness, wherein the oxygen scavenger is present in the finished container in an amount between 0.1 wt. % and 5.0 wt. % of the finished container, and wherein the finished container has a crystallinity between about 20% and about 40%. 20. The finished container recited in claim 1 , wherein the body extends along a central longitudinal axis from the top section to the bottom section, the body defining a cavity, the top section defining an opening in communication with the cavity, the opening being coaxial with the central longitudinal axis.
