Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A check valve for a fluid distribution system can include a valve body defining a valve bore defining a cylindrical shape, the valve body comprising an annular body and a fixed cross member secured to the valve body and extending across the valve bore, a position block secured to the cross member of the valve body, extending from the cross member, and defining a pivot bore; a pivot pin positioned within the valve body and extending through the pivot bore of the position block, the pivot pin positioned entirely within the cylindrical shape of the valve bore; and a valve member positioned within the valve body and configured to rotate about the pivot pin to a closed position when a pipe system termination fitting attached to the valve body is dislocated fr om the valve body or when the fluid moves in a negative flow direction of the check valve.

The invention claimed is: 1. A check valve for a fluid distribution system, the check valve comprising: a valve body defining a valve inner cavity, the valve inner cavity defining a valve bore extending from a first axial end to a second axial end, the valve bore defining a cylindrical shape, the cylindrical shape defining a central axis of the valve body, the central axis extending from the first axial end to the second axial end, the valve body comprising an annular body and a fixed cross member secured to and extending in a radial direction relative to the central axis of the valve body across the valve bore from the annular body on one side of the valve body to the annular body on an opposite side of the valve body, the valve bore at the cross member divided into more than one portion by the cross member; a position block secured to the cross member of the valve body, extending from the cross member, and defining a pivot bore; a pivot pin positioned within the valve body and extending through the pivot bore of the position block, the pivot pin positioned entirely within the cylindrical shape of the valve bore; and a valve member positioned within the valve body and configured to rotate about the pivot pin to a closed position when a pipe system termination fitting attached to the valve body is dislocated from the valve body or when the fluid moves in a negative flow direction of the check valve. 2. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein the valve body is monolithic. 3. The check valve of claim 2 , wherein the position block is formed monolithically with the valve body. 4. The check valve of claim 1 , further comprising a fastener securing a position of the pivot pin relative to the position block. 5. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein a length of the pivot pin is less than or equal to an inner diameter of the valve bore at a position of the pivot pin. 6. The check valve of claim 1 , further comprising a seal positioned between the valve body and the valve member in the closed position of the valve. 7. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein the pivot pin is fixed with respect to the valve member. 8. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein the valve member is held in one of the open position and the closed position by a biasing element when fluid is not flowing through the check valve. 9. The check valve of claim 8 , wherein the biasing element is a torsion spring. 10. The check valve of claim 9 , wherein a position of one end of the torsion spring is fixed with respect to one of the position block and the valve body. 11. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein an axial length of the valve body is shorter than an overall axial length of the check valve. 12. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein the pivot pin extends continuously through the pivot bore of the position block. 13. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein an overall length of a distal portion of the position block in a direction parallel to an orientation of the pivot bore of the position block is greater than a length of a base portion of the position block in the same direction. 14. The check valve of claim 1 , wherein an axial length of a radially outermost portion of the valve body measures ⅛ inch or less. 15. A check valve comprising: a valve body defining a mating surface and a valve inner cavity, the mating surface facing in an axial direction of the valve body and configured to receive a pipe system termination fitting, the valve inner cavity defining a valve bore extending from a first axial end to a second axial end, the valve bore defining a cylindrical shape, the cylindrical shape defining a central axis of the valve body, the central axis extending from the first axial end to the second axial end; a position block secured to the valve body and defining a pivot bore; a pivot pin positioned within the valve body and extending through the pivot bore of the position block, the pivot pin positioned entirely within the cylindrical shape of the valve bore; a valve member positioned within the valve body and configured to rotate about the pivot pin between an open position and a closed position; and an arm extending from the valve member in an axial direction at the valve body to at least the mating surface of the valve body, the arm also extending in an axial direction of the check valve past the mating surface of the valve body when the valve member is in the closed position but not past the mating surface of the valve body when the valve member is in the open position. 16. The check valve of claim 15 , wherein the valve body is monolithic. 17. The check valve of claim 16 , wherein the position block is formed monolithically with the valve body. 18. The check valve of claim 15 , further comprising a fastener securing a position of the pivot pin relative to the position block. 19. The check valve of claim 15 , wherein the valve member is held in one of the open position and the closed position by a biasing element when fluid is not flowing through the check valve, the biasing element being a torsion spring. 20. The check valve of claim 15 , wherein the arm rests within a notch defined in the valve body when the valve is in the open position. 21. The check valve of claim 15 , wherein an overall length of a distal portion of the position block in a direction parallel to an orientation of the pivot bore of the position block is greater than a length of a base portion of the position block in the same direction. 22. The check valve of claim 15 , wherein a length of the pivot pin is less than or equal to an inner diameter of the valve bore at a position of the pivot pin.
