A convertible composition comprising a nanosilica drilling fluid, the nanosilica drilling fluid comprising an aqueous based drilling mud, where the aqueous based drilling mud comprises water, and an alkaline nanosilica dispersion, where the alkaline nanosilica dispersion comprises nanosilica; and a chemical activator, the chemical activator operable to hydrolyze in the presence of water to produce an acid, where a weight ratio of the alkaline nanosilica dispersion to the chemical activator is between 1 to 0.001 and 1 to 0.25.

That which is claimed is: 1. A convertible composition, the convertible composition comprising: a nanosilica drilling fluid, where the yield point of the nanosilica drilling fluid is between 10 lb/100 ft 2 and 30 lb/100 ft 2 , where the 10 minute gel strength of the nanosilica drilling fluid is between 10 lb/100 ft 2 and 15 lb/100 ft 2 , the nanosilica drilling fluid comprising: an aqueous based drilling mud, where the aqueous based drilling mud comprises water, an alkaline nanosilica dispersion, where the alkaline nanosilica dispersion comprises nanosilica, a viscosifier, the viscosifier selected from the group consisting of a clay-based viscosifier, a bio-polymer viscosifier, and combinations of the same, where the clay-based viscosifier is selected from the group consisting of bentonite, kaolinite, montmorillonite, attapulgite, sepiolite, and combinations of the same, where the bio-polymer viscosifier is selected from the group consisting of xanthan gum, polyacrylate, polymethacrylate, polyacrylamide, partially-hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, carboxymethylhydroxypropyl guar, and combinations of the same, a filtration control additive, the filtration control additive selected from the group consisting of polyanionic cellulose, starch, modified starch, polyacrylate, partially-hydrolyzed polyacrylamide, and combinations of the same, a pH control agent, the pH control agent is selected from the group consisting of caustic soda, soda ash, lime, magnesium oxide, potassium hydroxide, bicarbonate of soda, and combinations of the same, and a weighting agent, the weighting agents is selected from the group consisting of barite, calcium carbonate, manganese tetroxide, ilmenite, and combinations of the same; and a chemical activator, the chemical activator operable to hydrolyze to produce an acid, where a weight ratio of the alkaline nanosilica dispersion to the chemical activator is between 1 to 0.001 and 1 to 0.25, where the chemical activator is a water insoluble hydrolysable polyester selected from the group comprising polylactide, polyhydroxyalkanoates, polyglycolide, polylactoglycolide, polycaprolactone, and combinations of the same. 2. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the convertible composition has a pH between 8 and 11. 3. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid includes further drilling fluid additives selected from the group consisting of lubricants, anti-bit balling agents, corrosion inhibitors, shale stabilizers, lost circulation materials, thinners, and combinations of the same. 4. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid further comprises a lubricant, the lubricant selected from the fatty acids, modified tall oil fatty acid, glyceride based lubricants, vegetable oil based lubricants, glycol based lubricants, diesel, and combinations of the same. 5. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid further comprises an anti-bit balling agent, the anti-bit balling agent is selected from the group consisting of fatty acids, modified tall oil fatty acids, glyceride based agents, vegetable oil based agents, glycol based agents, and combinations of the same. 6. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid further comprises a corrosion inhibitor, the corrosion inhibitor selected from the group consisting of imidazoline derivates and quaternary ammonium salts, amines, phosphonate and salts of phosphonate, gluconic acid and salts of gluconic acid, and combinations of the same. 7. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid further comprises a shale stabilizer, the shale stabilizer selected from the group consisting of glycols, polyethylene glycol, ethoxylates, quarternary amines, polyamines, and combinations of the same. 8. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid further comprises a lost circulation material, the lost circulation material selected from the group consisting of sized calcium carbonate, resilient graphite, mica, peanut shells, cellophane, walnut shells, plant fibers, cottonseed hulls, ground rubber, and combinations of the same. 9. The convertible composition of claim 1 , where the nanosilica drilling fluid further comprises a thinner, the thinner selected from the group consisting of lignite, lignosulfonate, chrome-free lignosulfonate, and combinations of the same.
