This disclosure relates to specific binding agents to varicella-zoster virus proteins or glycoproteins. In certain embodiments the specific binding agents are antibodies and binding fragments thereof disclosed herein. In certain embodiments, this disclosure relates to methods of treating or preventing a varicella-zoster infection comprising administering an effective amount of a specific binding agent disclosed herein to a subject in need thereof.

What is claimed is: 1. A recombinant chimeric antibody or fragment comprising six complementarity determining regions (CDRs) of antibody RM-2D6, wherein the CDRs comprise three heavy chain CDRs, wherein heavy chain CDR 1 comprises the amino acid sequence of GFMFSSYG (SEQ ID NO: 3); CDR 2 comprises the amino acid sequence of VSHDGTND (SEQ ID NO: 4), and CDR 3 comprises the amino acid sequence of AKTSWARFLEWTFDY (SEQ ID NO: 1), and, wherein the CDRs comprise three light chain CDRs, wherein light chain CDR 1 comprises the amino acid sequence of QSINRY (SEQ ID NO: 5); light chain CDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of GASS (SEQ ID NO: 6); and light chain CDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of QQSHSTPT (SEQ ID NO: 2); and, wherein the antibody or fragment specifically binds a glycoprotein of varicella-zoster virus. 2. The antibody of claim 1 , wherein the heavy chain variable region comprises EVQLVESGGGVVQPGRSLRLSCAASGFMFSSYGMHWVRQAPGKGLEWVAAVSHDGT NDLYADSVKGRFSISRDNSKNTLYLQMNSLRAEDTAVYYCAKTSWARFLEWTFDYWG QGTLVTVSS (SEQ ID NO: 7). 3. The antibody of claim 1 , wherein the light chain variable region comprises DIQMTQSPSSLSASVGDRVTITCRASQSINRYLNWYQQKPGKAPKLLIYGASSLQSGVPL RFSGSGSGTDFTLTISSLQPEDFATYYCQQSHSTPTFGQGTRLEIK (SEQ ID NO: 8). 4. A composition comprising the antibody or fragment of claim 1 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 5. A recombinant chimeric antibody or fragment comprising six complementarity determining regions (CDRs) of antibody 302-1G9, wherein the CDRs comprise three heavy chain CDRs, wherein heavy chain CDR 1 comprises the amino acid sequence of GYTFSNYG (SEQ ID NO: 11); CDR 2 comprises the amino acid sequence of ISASNANT (SEQ ID NO: 12), and CDR 3 comprises the amino acid sequence of ARDRGGSLAMVVGLDH (SEQ ID NO: 9), and, wherein the CDRs comprise three light chain CDRs, wherein light chain CDR 1 comprises the amino acid sequence of QSIGGY (SEQ ID NO: 13); light chain CDR2 comprises the amino acid sequence of AAST (SEQ ID NO: 14); and light chain CDR3 comprises the amino acid sequence of QQCYSAELT (SEQ ID NO: 10); and, wherein the antibody or fragment specifically binds a glycoprotein of varicella-zoster virus. 6. The antibody of claim 5 , wherein the heavy chain variable region comprises QVQLVQSGAEVKKPGASVKVSCEAFGYTFSNYGFTWVRQAPGQGLEWMGWISASNAN TKYGQKFRGRVTLTTDTSTSTAYMELRNLGYDDTAMYYCARDRGGSLAMVVGLDHW GQGTLVTVSS (SEQ ID NO: 15). 7. The antibody of claim 5 , wherein the light chain variable region comprises DIQMTQSPTSLSASVGDRVTITCRASQSIGGYLNWYQQNPGKAPKLLIYAASTLQRGVPS RFSGGGSGTDFTLTITSLQPEDFATYYCQQCYSAELTFGGGTKVEIK (SEQ ID NO: 16). 8. A composition comprising the antibody or fragment of claim 5 , and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
