Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system allows a user to create new designs for apparel and preview these designs before manufacture. Software and lasers are used in finishing apparel to produce a desired wear pattern or other design. The system guides how the user is allocating apparel items in the system, including feedback on what the user may like to change.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: providing a garment previewing tool that allows previewing on a computer screen of a selected garment base customized by a user with a finishing pattern created using a laser input file by a laser, wherein the garment previewing tool includes providing an option for the user to select the garment base and upon the user's selection, showing a first garment preview image on the computer screen comprising a garment base image for the selected garment base, providing an option for the user to select a wear pattern from a menu of wear patterns, wherein each wear pattern is associated with a laser input file to be used by a laser to produce that wear pattern onto a garment, after the wear pattern is selected, allowing the user to modify at least one of a sizing or position of the wear pattern relative to the garment base image, showing a second garment preview image on the computer screen comprising the garment base image and selected wear pattern, with modified sizing or modified positioning, or a combination, wherein the second garment preview image is generated by a method comprising generating an adjusted base image from the garment base image without the selected wear pattern, generating a pattern mask based on the laser input file associated with the selected wear pattern, for a pixel at a pixel location of the first garment preview image, obtaining a first contribution by combining a first value associated with a pixel of the pattern mask at a pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the garment base image at a base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview image, for the pixel at the pixel location of the first preview image, obtaining a second contribution by combining a second value associated with the pixel of the pattern mask at the pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview image and a value of a pixel of the adjusted base image at an adjusted base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second preview image, combining the first contribution and the second contribution to obtain a combined value for the pixel at the pixel location of the first preview image, and updating for display the pixel of the first preview image as a color on the computer screen, wherein the color of the pixel corresponds to the combined value; for a plurality of garments designed using the garment previewing tool, receiving from the user a plurality of allocation amounts for each of the plurality of garments; determining for the plurality of garments with the plurality of allocation amounts, a working order ratio including a ratio of an allocation for each garment item of the plurality of garments as compared to other allocations for other garment items of the plurality of garments; retrieving an internal ratio class, determined separately from the plurality of allocation amounts, wherein the internal ratio class relates to an availability of garment bases available for laser finishing; displaying to the user differences between the working order ratio and the internal class ratio; allowing the user to adjust at least one of the plurality of garments, the plurality of allocation amounts, or a combination, wherein the user's adjustment to the working order ratio increases or decreases an allocation of a garment item of the plurality of garments closer to another allocation specified by the internal class ratio; and determining, based on the user's adjustment, an allocation cost for the user's adjusted working order ratio that is lower than an allocation cost for the user's working order ratio. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the working order ratio is calculated based on a number of a particular garment base is allocated and the plurality of garment items includes at least two garment items that share the same particular garment base. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein displaying the differences comprises displaying on the user's device a first pie chart representing the working order ratio and a second pie chart representing the internal ratio class. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the working order ratio includes at least one garment item not included in the internal class ratio. 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the internal class ratio includes at least one garment item not included in the working order ratio. 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the internal class ratio and the working order ratio includes at least one garment item not included in the other ratio. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the internal ratio conforms to a contractual specific limitation. 8. The method of claim 1 comprising: retrieving another internal ratio class ratio, different than the internal ratio class; determining, based on the user's adjustment, whether the internal ratio class or the other internal ratio class applies to the user's adjustment; and determining, based on closer similarity of the user's adjustment to the internal ratio class as opposed to the other internal ratio class, that the internal ratio class applies to the user's adjustment. 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the other internal class ratio is based on a promotion of a particular garment base. 10. The method of claim 1 wherein the user is a retailer of apparel products and not an end consumer for a target garment. 11. A method comprising: providing a garment previewing tool that allows previewing on a computer screen of a selected garment base customized by a user with a finishing pattern created using a laser input file by a laser, wherein the garment previewing tool includes providing an option for the user to select the garment base, upon the user's selection, showing a first garment preview image on the computer screen comprising a garment base image for the selected garment base with a selected wear pattern, allowing the user to modify at least one of a sizing or position of the wear pattern relative to the garment base image, and showing a second garment preview image on the computer screen comprising the garment base image and selected wear pattern, with modified sizing or modified positioning, or a combination, wherein the second garment preview image is generated by a method comprising generating an adjusted base image from the garment base image without the selected wear pattern, generating a pattern mask based on the laser input file associated with the selected wear pattern, for a pixel at a pixel location of the first garment preview image, obtaining a first contribution by combining a first value associated with a pixel of the pattern mask at a pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first garment preview image and a value of a pixel of the garment base image at a base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview image, for the pixel at the pixel location of the first preview image, obtaining a second contribution by combining a second value associated with the pixel of the pattern mask at the pattern mask pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the first preview image and a value of a pixel of the adjusted base image at an adjusted base image pixel location that corresponds to the pixel location of the second preview image, combining the first contribution and the second contribution to obtain a combined value for the pixel at the pixel location of the first preview image, and updating for display the pixel of the first preview image as a color on the computer screen, wherein the
