Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A fluid formulation assembly for a formulation dispenser includes a fluid container configured to store a volume of fluid cosmetic formulation, a drive assembly operatively connectable to the fluid container and configured to dispense the fluid cosmetic formulation, and a carriage that receives the fluid container and is configured to interface with the drive assembly. The fluid container is removably attachable with the carriage without tools and at least one of the drive assembly or the carriage is removably attachable with the cosmetic formulation dispenser.

The invention claimed is: 1. A fluid formulation assembly for a formulation dispenser, comprising: a pouch storing a volume of fluid cosmetic formulation; a drive assembly operatively connectable to the pouch and configured to dispense the fluid cosmetic formulation from the pouch; and a carriage supporting the pouch and the drive assembly, the carriage being fixed to the drive assembly via an interface disposed between paddles abutting the pouch, wherein each of the paddles has at least one engagement member configured to removably attach the carriage to the formulation dispenser, the interface being configured to couple the pouch with the drive assembly, wherein the pouch is removably attachable with the carriage without tools. 2. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the drive assembly includes a cylinder housing a piston, the piston being connected with a motor and being configured to draw cosmetic formulation from the pouch into the cylinder, wherein the drive assembly and the pouch are supported by opposite sides of the interface. 3. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the pouch includes a valve that prevents dispensation of fluid from the pouch unless the pouch is received by the carriage. 4. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the carriage supports an electrical interface configured to draw power from the formulation dispenser. 5. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the carriage includes a hinged handle disposed between the paddles, the hinged handle being movable between an open position and a closed position, wherein the hinged handle engages the pouch in the closed position. 6. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 5 , wherein the carriage is configured such that in the open position, the pouch can slide out from between the paddles when the carriage is attached to the formulation dispenser. 7. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the pouch includes a tracking device. 8. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 7 , wherein the tracking device is a radiofrequency identification device or a near field communication device. 9. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 2 , wherein the cylinder has an inlet and an outlet. 10. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 9 , wherein the inlet is connected with a first check valve and the outlet is connected with a second check valve. 11. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the at least one engagement member of each paddle extends is a prong. 12. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the drive assembly includes a peristaltic pump. 13. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 1 , wherein the carriage includes a hinged handle disposed between the paddles and being movable between a closed position and an open position, wherein in the open position, the pouch can slide out from between the paddles when the carriage is attached to the formulation dispenser. 14. The fluid formulation assembly of claim 13 , wherein the carriage hingeably connects to the drive assembly. 15. A dispenser for dispensing a cosmetic formulation, comprising: a fluid formulation assembly having: a pouch storing a volume of fluid cosmetic formulation; a drive assembly operatively connectable to the pouch and configured to dispense fluid from the pouch; and a carriage supporting the pouch and the drive assembly, the carriage being fixed to the drive assembly via an interface disposed between paddles abutting the pouch, the carriage having a hinged handle movable between a closed position and an open position, wherein in the open position, an opening is created between the paddles through which the pouch can slide out of the carriage, wherein the pouch is removably attachable with the carriage without tools and at least one of the drive assembly or the carriage is removably attachable with a main frame of the dispenser. 16. The dispenser of claim 15 , wherein the fluid formulation assembly is one of a plurality of fluid formulation assemblies, wherein, for each fluid formulation assembly, the paddles are configured to removably attach the carriage to the main frame. 17. A custom formulation system, comprising: a dispenser having a main frame; a fluid formulation assembly having: a pouch storing a volume of fluid cosmetic formulation; a drive assembly operatively connectable to the pouch and configured to dispense fluid from the pouch; and a carriage supporting the pouch and the drive assembly, the carriage being fixed to the drive assembly via an interface disposed between paddles abutting the pouch, the interface being configured to reversibly couple the pouch with the drive assembly; wherein the pouch is removably attachable with the carriage without tools and without removing the carriage from the main frame, and wherein at least one of the drive assembly or the carriage is removably attachable with the main frame. 18. The custom formulation system of claim 17 , wherein the carriage includes a hinged handle disposed between the paddles, the paddles being configured to removably attach the carriage to the main frame, the hinged handle being movable between an open position and a closed position, wherein in the closed position, the hinged handle engages the pouch.
