Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, obtaining social network information associated with a first user, wherein the social network information includes information identifying a second user who is related to the first user. A determination is made that the first user had selected, during a presentation of a first media content item by a first media processing device of the first user, recording of a second media content item that had been advertised during the presentation of the first media content item. Responsive to the determining that the first user had selected the recording of the second media content item, a second media processing device of the second user is directed to record the second media content item. Other embodiments are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A non-transitory, machine-readable medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising: obtaining from a social network server social network information associated with a first user, wherein the social network information comprises information identifying a second user who is related to the first user; determining that the first user selected to record a second media content item that had been advertised during a presentation of a first media content item, resulting in a first user selected recording of the second media content item; and responsive to the determining that the first user selected recording of the second media content item; directing a second media processing device of the second user to record the second media content item; and providing an advertisement for the second media content item to the second media processing device of the second user. 2. The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the providing the advertisement for the second media content item to the second media processing device of the second user further comprises providing the advertisement for the second media content during presentation of third media content at the second media processing device. 3. The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the social network information associated with the first user is obtained from the social network server by way of a service provider server. 4. The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the first user selected recording of the second media content item occurs during the presentation of the first media content item by a first media processing device of the first user. 5. The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the directing the second media processing device to record the second media content item comprises direction to begin recording at a future time. 6. The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the directing the second media processing device to record the second media content item comprises direction to begin recording immediately. 7. The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the directing the second media processing device to record the second media content item is performed without user interaction. 8. A media processing device, comprising: a processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance operations, the operations comprising: obtaining social network information associated with a first user, wherein the social network information comprises information identifying a second user who is related to the first user; determining that the first user had selected, during a presentation of a first media content item by a first media processing device of the first user, recording of a second media content item that had been advertised during the presentation of the first media content item; and responsive to the determining that the first user had selected recording of the second media content item; directing a second media processing device of the second user to record the second media content item; and providing an advertisement for the second media content item to the second media processing device of the second user. 9. The media processing device of claim 8 , wherein the first user and second user are related according to one of family members and friends. 10. The media processing device of claim 9 , wherein the social network information associated with the first user is obtained from a social network server by way of a service provider server. 11. The media processing device of claim 10 , wherein the directing of the second media processing device of the second user to record the second media content item is responsive to direction from the service provider server. 12. The media processing device of claim 8 , wherein the first user selected recording of the second media content item occurs during a presentation of the first media content item by a first media processing device of the first user. 13. The media processing device of claim 8 , wherein the providing the advertisement for the second media content item to the second media processing device of the second user further comprises providing the advertisement for the second media content during presentation of third media content at the second media processing device. 14. The media processing device of claim 8 , wherein the directing the second media processing device to record the second media content item comprises direction to begin recording immediately. 15. A method, comprising: obtaining, by a processing system including a processor, social network information associated with a first user, wherein the social network information comprises information identifying a second user who is related to the first user; determining, by the processing system, that the first user had selected, during a presentation of a first media content item by a first media processing device of the first user, recording of a second media content item that had been advertised during the presentation of the first media content item; and responsive to the determining that the first user had selected recording of the second media content item; directing, by the processing system, a second media processing device of the second user to record the second media content item; and providing, by the processing system, an advertisement for the second media content item to a second media processing device of the second user. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the social network information associated with the first user is obtained from a social network server by way of a service provider server. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the directing of the second media processing device of the second user to record the second media content item is responsive to direction from the service provider server. 18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the first user selected recording of the second media content item occurs during a presentation of the first media content item by a first media processing device of the first user. 19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the directing the second media processing device to record the second media content item comprises direction to begin recording at a future time. 20. The method of claim 15 , wherein the directing the second media processing device to record the second media content item comprises direction to begin recording immediately.
