Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method includes: providing an assembly including: an inner needle, an inner needle hub, a catheter, a catheter hub, a catheter operation member, and a support member; puncturing a blood vessel of a patient with the inner needle and the catheter, while the support member is at a first position in which the support member supports the catheter; advancing the catheter operation member relative to the needle hub such that the catheter advances in the blood vessel, such that a part of the support member is caused to deform relative to the needle hub as the support member moves from the first position to a second position in which the support member does not support the catheter, and such that the catheter hub detaches from the needle hub; and retracting the inner needle hub and the inner needle relative to the catheter hub and the catheter.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: providing an assembly comprising: an inner needle comprising a needle tip at a distal end, an inner needle hub fixed to a proximal portion of the inner needle, a catheter in which the inner needle is positioned, a catheter hub fixed to a proximal portion of the catheter, a catheter operation member configured to move the catheter relative to the inner needle, and a support member; puncturing a blood vessel of a patient with the inner needle and the catheter in which the inner needle is positioned, while the support member is in a first state in which the support member supports the catheter; advancing the catheter operation member relative to the needle hub such that the catheter advances in the blood vessel to a position at which a portion of the catheter is located distal of the inner needle, such that a part of the support member is caused to deform relative to the needle hub as the support member changes from the first state to a second state in which the support member does not support the catheter, and such that the catheter hub detaches from the needle hub; and retracting the inner needle hub and the inner needle relative to the catheter hub and the catheter, while maintaining the catheter in the blood vessel, such that the inner needle is pulled out from and entirely removed from the catheter. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein, during the step of puncturing the blood vessel, the catheter is interposed between the catheter operation member and the support member. 3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein, during the step of puncturing the blood vessel, the support member is inhibited from being changed from the first state. 4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the step of advancing the catheter operation member relative to the needle hub causes the support member to be released from being inhibited from being changed from the first state. 5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the support member is rotatably attached to the needle hub. 6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the support member comprises a support main body portion, and an axial rod portion rotatably attached to the needle hub. 7. The method according to claim 6 , wherein, when the support member is in the first state, the support main body portion projects in a direction orthogonal to an axial direction of the axial rod portion. 8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein, when the support member is in the second state, the support main body portion projects in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the assembly. 9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein: the needle hub includes a groove-like rail portion, the axial rod portion includes a groove portion arranged in the rail portion, and the catheter operation member includes: a side edge housed in the rail portion and the groove portion in a slidable manner, the side edge being configured to be guided at a time of advancement of the catheter operation member with respect to the needle hub, and a cut-out portion not housed in the rail portion and the groove portion, the cut-out portion being formed by cutting out the side edge at a position at or near an attachment position to the catheter hub. 10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the axial rod portion includes a cam portion, and the groove portion extends from a first end of the cam portion to a second end of the cam portion. 11. The method according to claim 8 , wherein the support main body portion comprises a projection configured to contact a proximal end portion of the catheter operation member and displace the support main body portion from the first state to the second state during the step of advancing the catheter operation member relative to the needle hub. 12. The method according to claim 6 , wherein the support member comprises a wing that, when the support member is in the first state, is inclined downward and outward in a width direction of the needle hub from a portion that supports the catheter. 13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein: the support member comprises a support main body portion, and the support member is a torsion spring comprising a coil portion formed by winding a wire member, and a projecting portion formed as the support main body portion and projecting radially outward from the coil portion. 14. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the catheter operation member comprises a plurality of holding portions configured to directly hold the catheter in a detachable manner. 15. The method according to claim 14 , where each holding portion of the plurality of holding portions comprises a pair of projecting pieces. 16. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the support member comprises a support main body portion configured to be elastically deformed by the projecting pieces so as to allow the projecting pieces to pass during the step of advancing the catheter operation member relative to the needle hub. 17. A method comprising: providing an assembly comprising: an inner needle comprising a needle tip at a distal end, an inner needle hub fixed to a proximal portion of the inner needle, a catheter in which the inner needle is positioned, a catheter hub fixed to a proximal portion of the catheter, a catheter operation member configured to move the catheter relative to the inner needle, and a support member comprising a support main body portion, and an axial rod portion rotatably attached to the needle hub; puncturing a blood vessel of a patient with the inner needle and the catheter in which the inner needle is positioned, while the support member is at a first position in which the support member supports the catheter; advancing the catheter operation member relative to the needle hub such that the catheter advances in the blood vessel to a position at which a portion of the catheter is located distal of the inner needle, such that the support member is caused to move from the first position to a second position in which the support member does not support the catheter, and such that the catheter hub detaches from the needle hub; and retracting the inner needle hub and the inner needle relative to the catheter hub and the catheter, while maintaining the catheter in the blood vessel, such that the inner needle is pulled out from and entirely removed from the catheter. 18. The method according to claim 17 , wherein, when the support member is in the first position, the support main body portion projects in a direction orthogonal to an axial direction of the axial rod portion. 19. A method comprising: providing an assembly comprising: an inner needle comprising a needle tip at a distal end, an inner needle hub fixed to a proximal portion of the inner needle, a catheter in which the inner needle is positioned, a catheter hub fixed to a proximal portion of the catheter, a catheter operation member configured to move the catheter relative to the inner needle, and a support member comprising a support main body portion, wherein the support member is a torsion spring comprising a coil portion formed by winding a wire member, and a projecting portion formed as the support main body portion and projecting radially outward from the coil portion; puncturing a blood vessel of a patient with the inner needle and the catheter in which the inner needle is positioned, while the support member is at a first position in which the support member supports the catheter; advancing the catheter opera
