Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The aerosol-generating article (10) comprises a plurality of elements assembled in the form of a rod having a mouth end (70) and a distal end (80) upstream from the mouth end. The plurality of elements comprises an aerosol-forming substrate (20) with an elongate susceptor (25) arranged longitudinally within the aerosol-forming substrate. A plug element (90) is located upstream of and adjacent the aerosol-forming substrate within the rod. The plug element (90) thereby prevents direct physical contact with a distal end of the elongate susceptor (25) arranged longitudinally within the aerosol-forming substrate (20).

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. An aerosol-generating article comprising: a plurality of elements assembled in the form of a rod having a mouth end and a distal end upstream from the mouth end, the plurality of elements comprising an aerosol-forming substrate with an elongate susceptor arranged longitudinally within the aerosol-forming substrate, wherein a plug element is located upstream of and adjacent the aerosol-forming substrate within the rod, the plug element preventing direct physical contact with a distal end of the elongate susceptor arranged longitudinally within the aerosol-forming substrate, and wherein the plug element is made of porous material or comprises a plurality of openings such as to not allow a view of the distal end of the aerosol-forming substrate, and wherein the plug element does not include a through-hole extending continuously through the plug longitudinally. 2. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element has a resistance to draw (RTD) between 20 mmWG and 40 mmWG. 3. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element is made of ceramic, polymeric material, cellulose acetate, cardboard, non-inductively heatable metal, zeolite, or aerosol-forming substrate. 4. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein at least the distal end of the plug element has a homogeneous structure. 5. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element comprises an inner surface defining a cavity, wherein the cavity is arranged within the plug element such that a proximal end of the plug element does not contact the elongate susceptor arranged within aerosol-forming substrate. 6. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 5 , wherein the inner surface of the cavity has a concave shape. 7. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element is made of a heat resistant material. 8. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element is a separate element. 9. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element has a length of between 1 millimeter to 10 millimeter. 10. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element is a coating applied to a distal end of the aerosol-generating substrate. 11. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the aerosol-forming substrate comprises a gathered sheet of homogenised tobacco material. 12. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elements further comprises a support element and an aerosol-cooling element and a mouthpiece element comprising a filter segment and a hollow tube, wherein the aerosol-cooling element has a length of at most 15 millimeter, and wherein a length of the mouthpiece element is adapted according to the length of the aerosol-cooling element such that a total length of the aerosol-generating article is kept at a predefined total length. 13. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 12 , wherein the hollow tube comprised in the mouthpiece element is arranged at the distal end of the rod, and wherein the length of the hollow tube is adapted according to the length of the aerosol-cooling element such that a total length of the aerosol-generating article is kept at a predefined total length. 14. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 3 , wherein the plug element is made of aerosol-forming substrate comprising a tobacco-containing material. 15. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein sizes of the plurality of openings do not allow the view of the distal end of the plug element. 16. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element has a regular surface over its entire cross section. 17. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of openings is distributed homogeneously over the cross-section of the plug element. 18. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element is made of cellulose acetate tow. 19. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element corresponds to a filter segment of a mouthpiece element. 20. The aerosol-generating article according to claim 1 , wherein the plug element is configured to prevent the susceptor from falling out of the aerosol-generating article.
