What is claimed is: 1. A method of treating or preventing a cancer in a subject comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising a recombinant polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of p1978 (SEQ ID NO: 1). 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is a breast cancer. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the breast cancer is triple negative breast cancer. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered by intravenous injection or catheter delivery. 5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the composition is administered by intravenous injection or catheter delivery. 6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the composition is administered by intravenous injection or catheter delivery. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recombinant polypeptide is a fusion protein comprising the amino acid sequence of p1978 (SEQ ID NO: 1) and a heterologous polypeptide sequence. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recombinant polypeptide is no more than 50 amino acids in length. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recombinant polypeptide is no more than 20 amino acids in length. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the N-terminus, the C-terminus or both are blocked.
