Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods for proactively identifying and surfacing relevant content on an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display are disclosed herein. In one aspect, a method includes presenting content in a first application. At least a portion of the content is presented without requiring input from a user. The method further includes receiving a request to open a second application. In response to receiving the request, the second application is presented with an input-receiving field. Before receiving any user input at the input-receiving field, a selectable user interface object is displayed with an indication that the portion of the content was viewed in the first application, allowing the user to paste at least the portion of the content into the input-receiving field. In response to detecting a selection of the selectable user interface object, the portion of the content is pasted into the input-receiving field.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: at an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display: presenting content in a first application for viewing by a user, wherein at least a portion of the content is presented without requiring input from the user; receiving a request from the user to open a second application that is distinct from the first application, the second application including an input-receiving field; in response to receiving the request, presenting the second application with the input-receiving field; before receiving any user input at the input-receiving field, providing a selectable user interface object to allow the user to paste at least the portion of the content into the input-receiving field; and in response to detecting a selection of the selectable user interface object, pasting the portion of the content into the input-receiving field, wherein the selectable user interface object is displayed with an indication that the portion of the content was recently viewed in the first application. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: before providing the selectable user interface object, identifying the input-receiving field as a field that is capable of accepting the portion of the content. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein identifying the input-receiving field as a field that is capable of accepting the portion of the content is performed in response to detecting a selection of the input-receiving field. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to an image. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to textual content. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to textual content and an image. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first application is a web browsing application and the second application is a messaging application. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first application is a photo browsing application and the second application is a messaging application. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: before receiving the request to open the second application, receiving a request to copy at least the portion of the content. 10. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing executable instructions that, when executed by an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, cause the electronic device to: present content in a first application for viewing by a user, wherein at least a portion of the content is presented without requiring input from the user; receive a request from the user to open a second application that is distinct from the first application, the second application including an input-receiving field; in response to receiving the request, present the second application with the input-receiving field; before receiving any user input at the input-receiving field, provide a selectable user interface object to allow the user to paste at least the portion of the content into the input-receiving field; and in response to detecting a selection of the selectable user interface object, paste the portion of the content into the input-receiving field, wherein the selectable user interface object is displayed with an indication that the portion of the content was recently viewed in the first application. 11. An electronic device, comprising: a touch-sensitive display; one or more processors; and memory storing one or more programs that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the electronic device to: present content in a first application for viewing by a user, wherein at least a portion of the content is presented without requiring input from the user; receive a request from the user to open a second application that is distinct from the first application, the second application including an input-receiving field; in response to receiving the request, present the second application with the input-receiving field; before receiving any user input at the input-receiving field, provide a selectable user interface object to allow the user to paste at least the portion of the content into the input-receiving field; and in response to detecting a selection of the selectable user interface object, paste the portion of the content into the input-receiving field, wherein the selectable user interface object is displayed with an indication that the portion of the content was recently viewed in the first application. 12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the electronic device to: before providing the selectable user interface object, identify the input-receiving field as a field that is capable of accepting the portion of the content. 13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein identifying the input-receiving field as a field that is capable of accepting the portion of the content is performed in response to detecting a selection of the input-receiving field. 14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to an image. 15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to textual content. 16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to textual content and an image. 17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the first application is a web browsing application and the second application is a messaging application. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the first application is a photo browsing application and the second application is a messaging application. 19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the electronic device to: before receiving the request to open the second application, receive a request to copy at least the portion of the content. 20. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the one or more programs further cause the electronic device to: before providing the selectable user interface object, identify the input-receiving field as a field that is capable of accepting the portion of the content. 21. The electronic device of claim 20 , wherein identifying the input-receiving field as a field that is capable of accepting the portion of the content is performed in response to detecting a selection of the input-receiving field. 22. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to an image. 23. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to textual content. 24. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the portion of the content corresponds to textual content and an image. 25. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the first application is a web browsing application and the second application is a messaging application. 26. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the first application is a photo browsing application and the second application is a messaging application. 27. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the one or more programs further cause the electronic device to: before receiving the request
