A high pressure fuel pump includes a pump housing, pressure and damper chambers, a metal diaphragm, a press-fitted portion, and a weld portion. The pressure chamber is provided in the pump housing. The damper chamber is formed by the pump housing and a damper cover. The metal diaphragm damper is arranged in the damper chamber. At the press-fitted portion, an annular surface of the damper cover is press fitted to an annular surface of the pump housing. The weld portion fixes the damper cover to the pump housing at an entire circumference of the press-fitted portion.

The invention claimed is: 1. A fuel pump comprising: a pump housing; a pressure chamber provided in the pump housing; a damper chamber formed by the pump housing and a damper cover; a metal diaphragm damper arranged in the damper chamber; a pair of an upper holding member and a lower holding member which hold the metal diaphragm damper therebetween; a press-fitted connection which fixes a cylindrical inner surface of the damper cover to the annular outer surface of the pump housing in a state where the metal diaphragm damper, the upper holding member and the lower holding member are fixed by bringing the pump housing in contact with the lower holding member and bringing the upper holding member in contact with the damper cover; and a weld portion fixing the damper cover to the pump housing at an entire circumference of the press-fitted connection. 2. The fuel pump according to claim 1 , further comprising: the pair comprising the upper holding member and the lower holding member vertically sandwiching the metal diaphragm damper. 3. The fuel pump according to claim 2 , wherein the upper holding member is in contact with the damper cover, and the lower holding member is in contact with the pump housing. 4. The fuel pump according to claim 2 , further comprising: an annular space between the damper cover and the upper holding member. 5. The fuel pump according to claim 4 , wherein the annular space communicates with an intake passage formed between the damper cover and the metal diaphragm damper. 6. The fuel pump according to claim 2 , further comprising: a plunger configured to perform a reciprocating movement ascending into the pressure chamber and descending from the pressure chamber; a cylinder for guiding the reciprocating movement of the plunger; a plunger seal slidably in contact with an outer periphery of the plunger; a seal chamber formed between an end portion of the cylinder and the plunger seal; and an intake passage communicating the damper chamber with the seal chamber, wherein the intake passage is located radially inward of the lower holding member. 7. The fuel pump according to claim 2 , further comprising: an intake passage communicating the damper chamber with an intake port of an electromagnetic intake valve mechanism, wherein the intake passage is located radially inward of the lower holding member. 8. The fuel pump according to claim 2 , further comprising: an intake joint fixed to an inner annular surface of an omitted portion of the damper cover; and a weld portion that penetrates through an outer annular surface of the omitted portion of the damper cover to the intake joint. 9. The fuel pump according to claim 8 , wherein the intake joint is provided in a direction perpendicular to an outer wall of the pump housing. 10. The fuel pump according to claim 8 , further comprising: a filter that is fixed in the intake joint. 11. The fuel pump according to claim 1 , wherein the cylindrical inner surface of the damper cover is formed in an open side of the damper cover. 12. The fuel pump according to claim 11 , wherein an open side end part of the cylindrical inner surface of the damper cover is not in contact with an upper surface of the pump housing. 13. The fuel pump according to claim 11 , wherein the damper cover is formed into a cup shape and includes a bottom portion and an opening portion, the bottom portion is arranged upward and away from the housing, and the opening portion is arranged downward and toward the housing. 14. The fuel pump according to claim 1 , wherein the damper cover is made of a rolled steel by pressing.
