Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An aircraft passenger seat grouping including a first passenger seat, a second passenger seat positioned to one side of the first passenger seat, an armrest positioned between the first and second passenger seats, a shell member positioned between the first and second passenger seats, the shell member extending between the first and second passenger seats in a forward direction above the armrest, and a privacy headrest extension movably attached to the privacy shell, the privacy headrest extension movable between a stowed position substantially within the privacy shell and a deployed position forward of the shell member wherein at least a portion of the privacy headrest extension is outside of the privacy shell and above the armrest. The shell member provides privacy between the seats and the privacy headrest extension deploys to increase privacy between the seats.

What is claimed is: 1. An aircraft passenger seat grouping, comprising: a first passenger seat; a second passenger seat positioned to one side of the first passenger seat, wherein the first and second passenger seats are laterally aligned and face the same direction; a shared armrest positioned between the first and second passenger seats; a first privacy assembly attached to a headrest portion of the first passenger seat, the first privacy assembly including a fixed shell having a first portion that extends along the headrest portion and a second portion, continuous with the first portion, that extends forward of the headrest portion at one side of the headrest portion, the second portion housing a privacy extension movably coupled to the second portion and selectively deployable from within the second portion to a position outside of and forward of the second portion, wherein at least a portion of the privacy extension remains positioned within the second portion when the privacy extension is in a fully deployed condition; and a second privacy assembly attached to a headrest portion of the second passenger seat, the second privacy assembly including a fixed shell having a first portion that extends along the headrest portion and a second portion, continuous with the first portion, that extends forward of the headrest portion at one side of the headrest portion, the second portion housing a privacy extension movably coupled to the second portion and selectively deployable from within the second portion to a position outside of and forward of the second portion, wherein at least a portion of the privacy extension remains positioned within the second portion when the privacy extension is in a fully deployed condition; wherein the second portion of at least one of the first and second privacy assemblies is positioned above the shared armrest in spaced apart relation to the shared armrest and extends along a portion of the length of the shared armrest; and wherein the privacy divider of at least one of the first and second privacy assemblies, when in the fully deployed condition, is positioned above the shared armrest in spaced apart relation to the shared armrest and extends along a portion of the length of the shared armrest. 2. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein the privacy extension of each of the first and second privacy assemblies is pivotally attached to its respective second portion. 3. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein the privacy extension of each of the first and second privacy assemblies slidably engages its respective second portion. 4. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein the second portions are each vertically adjustable relative to their respective first portion. 5. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein each second portion includes a track and wherein each privacy extension slidably engages its respective track. 6. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the first privacy assembly is positioned above the shared armrest and the second portion of the second privacy assembly is positioned above the shared armrest and alongside the second portion of the first privacy assembly. 7. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the first privacy assembly is positioned above the shared armrest and the second portion of the second privacy assembly is positioned on a side of the second passenger seat apart from the shared armrest positioned between the first and second passenger seats. 8. The aircraft passenger seat grouping of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of each of the first privacy assembly and the second privacy assembly extends beyond a lateral extent of its respective one of the first passenger seat and the second passenger seat such that the second portion of each of the first privacy assembly and the second privacy assembly is positioned outward of a lateral extent of its respective one of the first passenger seat and the second passenger seat.
