Surface treatment of a tubular surface defining an axis extending from a first surface end to a second surface end includes partially surrounding the tubular surface, at a first position, with a first set of treating units, with the treating units arranged in a first arcuate array. Furthermore, each treating unit is configured to include a plurality of first applicator heads. In some examples, a position of each of the plurality of first applicator heads is determined relative to the tubular surface. The first set of treating units is moved from the first position towards a second position. In one non-limiting example, each of the plurality of first applicator heads is independently controlled to selectively apply a first treatment as the first set of treating units moves from the first position towards the second position.

What is claimed is: 1. A surface treatment assembly for treating a tubular surface defining an axis between a front end of the tubular surface and a rear end of the tubular surface, the surface treatment assembly comprising: a first set of treating units including a plurality of contiguous, axially aligned treating units arranged to form a first arcuate array of treating units, to partially surround the tubular surface at a first position along the axis, each treating unit of the first set of treating units including a plurality of first applicator heads; and a control module configured to independently control each of the plurality of first applicator heads to selectively apply a first treatment to the tubular surface and move the first set of treating units from the first position along the axis towards a second position along the axis, wherein each treating unit of the first set of treating units traverses an axial path over the tubular surface from the first position along the axis to the second position along the axis. 2. The surface treatment assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a second set of treating units including a plurality of contiguous, axially aligned treating units arranged in a second arcuate array, each treating unit of the second set of treating units including a plurality of second applicator heads, wherein the control module is further configured to independently control each of the plurality of second applicator heads to selectively apply a second treatment and move the second set of treating units from the first position along the axis to the second position along the axis, and wherein each treating unit of the second set of treating units traverses an axial path over the tubular surface from the first position along the axis to the second position along the axis. 3. The surface treatment assembly of claim 2 , in which the control module further is configured to move the second set of treating units from the first position along the axis to the second position along the axis independently from the first set of treating units. 4. The surface treatment assembly of claim 3 , in which the first and second sets of treating units are configured to apply the first and second treatments, respectively, on the tubular surface in a single pass. 5. The surface treatment assembly of claim 2 , in which the second treatment is different from the first treatment. 6. The surface treatment assembly of claim 2 , further comprising a plurality of sensors coupled to the first and second sets of treating units and configured to generate a data set, wherein the control module is further configured to determine a position of each of the plurality of first and second applicator heads and make real-time adjustments to the first and second sets of treating units based on the data set. 7. The surface treatment assembly of claim 6 , in which the plurality of first and second applicator heads are supported for tiltable adjustment, and in which the control module further is configured to adjust the plurality of first and second applicator heads to maintain a normal orientation relative to the tubular surface based on the data set. 8. The surface treatment assembly of claim 7 , in which the control module further is configured to utilize the data set to adjust application of the first and second treatments according to a change in diameter of the tubular surface. 9. The surface treatment assembly of claim 1 , in which the first set of treating units is carried by first and second frames, and in which at least one of the first and second frames is radially adjustable relative to the tubular surface. 10.
