Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A lid for use with a beverage container. The lid has a body with a drink opening, a drink opening stopper operable to transition between a closed position and an opened position, and a lock actuator manually rotatable between a locking position preventing the drink opening stopper from transitioning from the closed position to the opened position when the lock actuator is in the locking position and an unlocking position permitting the drink opening stopper to transition from the closed position to the opened position when the lock actuator is in the unlocking position.

What is claimed is: 1. A lid for use with a drinking vessel containing a liquid, comprising: a body selectively couplable to the drinking vessel, the body having a drink opening configured to permit fluid passage therethrough when the lid is coupled to the drinking vessel; a drink opening stopper operable to transition between a closed position whereat the drink opening stopper is positioned at the drink opening to prevent the passage of fluid from within the drinking vessel through the drink opening, and an opened position whereat the drink opening stopper is positioned away from the drink opening to permit the passage of fluid from within the drinking vessel through the drink opening; and a manually rotatable lock actuator selectively movable by a user in first and second rotational directions; a locking member movable between a lock position and an unlock position, the lock actuator being engagable with the locking member to move the locking member between the lock and unlock positions, rotation of the lock actuator in the first rotational direction moving the locking member to the lock position whereat the locking member prevents the drink opening stopper from transitioning from the closed position to the opened position, and rotation of the lock actuator in the second rotational direction moving the locking member to the unlock position whereat the locking member permits the drink opening stopper to transition from the closed position to the opened position; and a drink opening stopper actuator movable in response to an actuation force applied thereto when the locking member is in the unlock position, actuating movement of the drink opening stopper actuator permitting movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the open position. 2. The lid of claim 1 , wherein the drink opening stopper actuator is a button inwardly movable in response to an inwardly directed actuation force applied directly to the button when the locking member is in the unlock position, inward movement of the button permitting movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the open position. 3. A lid for use with a drinking vessel containing a liquid, comprising: a body selectively couplable to the drinking vessel, the body having a drink opening configured to permit fluid passage therethrough when the lid is coupled to the drinking vessel; a drink opening stopper operable to move between a closed position whereat the drink opening stopper is positioned at the drink opening to prevent the passage of fluid from within the drinking vessel through the drink opening, and an opened position whereat the drink opening stopper is positioned away from the drink opening to permit the passage of fluid from within the drinking vessel through the drink opening; a button inwardly movable in response to an inwardly directed actuation force applied directly to the button, inward movement of the button permitting movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the open position; a lock actuator manually rotatable between a locking position and an unlocking position; and a locking member movable in response to rotation of the lock actuator, the locking member preventing movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the opened position in response to the inwardly directed actuation force being applied directly to the button when the lock actuator is rotated to the locking position, and permitting movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the opened position in response to the inwardly directed actuation force being applied directly to the button when the lock actuator is rotated to the unlocking position. 4. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the locking member is rotatably movable in first and second rotational directions in response to rotation of the lock actuator, with movement of the locking member to a first rotational position preventing movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the opened position in response to the inwardly directed actuation force being applied directly to the button when the lock actuator is rotated to the locking position, and with movement of the locking member to a second rotational position permitting movement of the drink opening stopper from the closed position to the opened position in response to the inwardly directed actuation force being applied directly to the button when the lock actuator is rotated to the unlocking position. 5. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the lock actuator is positioned to leave the button unblocked to permit the inwardly directed actuation force to be applied directly to the button both when the lock actuator is in the locking position and in the unlocking position. 6. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the body has a top end portion and a side portion extending downward from the top end portion, the lock actuator being rotatably attached to the top end portion of the body, the button being positioned at the side portion of the body, and the lock actuator having an outward perimeter portion positioned adjacent to the side portion of the body and above the button when the locking actuator in the locking position, in the unlocking position and in all positions between the locking position and the unlocking position. 7. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the body has a top end portion and a side portion extending downward from the top end portion, the lock actuator being rotatably attached to the top end portion of the body, the button being positioned at the side portion of the body, and the button being positioned to not be covered by the lock actuator when the lock actuator is in the locking position and when the lock actuator is in the unlocking position to permit the inwardly directed actuation force to be applied directly to the button both when the lock actuator is in the locking position and in the unlocking position. 8. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the body has a side portion and the lock actuator has an outward portion positioned adjacent to the side portion of the body, the outward portion of the lock actuator being clear of the button both when the lock actuator is in the locking position and in the unlocking position to permit the inwardly directed actuation force to be applied directly to the button both when the lock actuator is in the locking position and in the unlocking position. 9. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the body has a top end portion and the lock actuator is rotatably attached to the top end portion of the body. 10. The lid of claim 9 for use with the drinking vessel having a longitudinal axis, wherein the lock actuator is rotatable between the locking and unlocking positions about the longitudinal axis when coupled to the drinking vessel. 11. The lid of claim 9 wherein the lock actuator is rotatable between the locking and unlocking positions in a plane parallel to at least a portion of the top end portion of the body. 12. The lid of claim 9 for use with the drinking vessel having a bottom end, wherein the lock actuator is rotatable between the locking and unlocking positions in a horizontal plane when the drinking vessel is positioned with the drinking vessel bottom end resting on a horizontal surface. 13. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the lock member has a central portion with at least a partial disc shape. 14. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the lock actuator is rotatable between the locking and unlocking positions about a vertical axis of the body of the lid. 15. The lid of claim 3 , wherein the lock actuator has an outer perimeter portion with at least a portion thereof having
