Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The transaction processing system and method provide an efficient and effective way to authorize promotion redemption. The transaction processing system may receive an indication of a request for authorization, the indication comprising a merchant identifier, an account number, and a transaction amount. The transaction processing system may determine whether the request for authorization corresponds to a promotion. The system may further transmit a transaction authorization based on whether the request for authorization corresponds to the promotion. The transaction processing system may cause a promotion database to designate the promotion as redeemed. In this fashion, the transaction processing system improves the consumer experience and minimizes the transaction time needed to identify and redeem a promotion.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one non-transitory memory comprising program code, the at least one non-transitory memory and the program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least: configure a promotion database with a plurality of predefined transaction values for respective promotion identifiers, wherein the promotion database comprises a correlation look-up table that correlates each of the respective promotion identifiers in the promotion database to a respective predefined transaction value; receive an authorization request generated by a point of sale terminal, wherein the authorization request comprises an account number and a first transaction amount associated with a reward logic identifier, wherein the account number is provided to the point of sale terminal via encoded data or a near field communication tag associated with a mobile device, and wherein the first transaction amount facilitates querying of the promotion database and does not trigger a purchase of a good or service; determine whether the first transaction amount satisfies a transaction threshold; in response to determining that the first transaction amount satisfies the transaction threshold, query the promotion database to determine whether the first transaction amount correlates to a predefined transaction value of the plurality of predefined transaction values stored in the promotion database; in response to determining that the first transaction amount correlates to the predefined transaction value of the plurality of predefined transaction values stored in the promotion database, generate, based on the reward logic identifier associated with the first transaction amount, a correlation between a promotion identifier and the predefined transaction value in the correlation look-up table; identify a consumer profile based at least on the account number; and initiate, based on the promotion identifier and the data included in the consumer profile, a first action associated with the point of sale terminal to modify, based on a promotion associated with the promotion identifier, a second transaction amount associated with a transaction related to the purchase of the good or service; and in response to determining that the first transaction amount does not correlate to a particular predefined transaction value of the plurality of predefined transaction values stored in the promotion database, initiate a second action associated with the point of sale terminal to process the second transaction amount associated with the transaction related to the purchase of the good or service. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one non-transitory memory and the program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to further: determine whether the consumer profile satisfies a promotion requirement associated with the promotion; and in response to determining that the consumer profile satisfies the promotion requirement, generate a transaction authorization indicative of the promotion. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the account number comprises an account type identifier, an issuing bank identifier, and a consumer account identifier. 4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the consumer profile is identified based on the consumer account identifier associated with the account number. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one non-transitory memory and the program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to further: determine whether the consumer profile satisfies a promotion requirement associated with the promotion; and in response to determining that the consumer profile does not satisfy the promotion requirement, generate an electronic indication that the promotion is not authorized. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one non-transitory memory and the program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to further: in response to completing the first action, initiate a third action with the point of sale terminal to process the transaction related to the purchase of the good or service at a modified transaction amount. 7. A computer-implemented method, comprising: configuring a promotion database with a plurality of predefined transaction values for respective promotion identifiers, wherein the promotion database comprises a correlation look-up table that correlates each of the respective promotion identifiers in the promotion database to a respective predefined transaction value; receiving an authorization request generated by a point of sale terminal, wherein the authorization request comprises an account number and a first transaction amount associated with a reward logic identifier, wherein the account number is provided to the point of sale terminal via encoded data or a near field communication tag associated with a mobile device, and wherein the first transaction amount facilitates querying of the promotion database and does not trigger a purchase of a good or service; determining whether the first transaction amount satisfies a transaction threshold; in response to determining that the first transaction amount satisfies the transaction threshold, querying the promotion database to determine whether the first transaction amount correlates to a predefined transaction value of the plurality of predefined transaction values stored in the promotion database; in response to determining that the first transaction amount correlates to the predefined transaction value of the plurality of predefined transaction values stored in the promotion database, generating, based on the reward logic identifier associated with the first transaction amount, a correlation between a promotion identifier and the predefined transaction value in the correlation look-up table; identifying a consumer profile based at least on the account number; and initiating, based on the promotion identifier and the data included in the consumer profile, a first action associated with the point of sale terminal to modify, based on a promotion associated with the promotion identifier, a second transaction amount associated with a transaction related to the purchase of the good or service; and in response to determining that the first transaction amount does not correlate to a particular predefined transaction value of the plurality of predefined transaction values stored in the promotion database, initiating a second action associated with the point of sale terminal to process the second transaction amount associated with the transaction related to the purchase of the good or service. 8. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 , further comprising: determining whether the consumer profile satisfies a promotion requirement associated with the promotion; and in response to determining that the consumer profile satisfies the promotion requirement, generating a transaction authorization indicative of the promotion. 9. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 , wherein the account number comprises an account type identifier, an issuing bank identifier, and a consumer account identifier. 10. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein identifying the consumer profile is further based on the consumer account identifier associated with the account number. 11. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 , further comprising: determining whether the consumer profile satisfies a promotion requirement associated with the promotion; and in response to determining that the consumer profile does not satisfy the p
