Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In accordance with some implementations of the disclosed subject matter, mechanisms for presenting recommended media content items are provided. In some implementations, a method for providing media guidance is provided, the method comprising: receiving a query from a user; determining search terms from the received query; determining location information corresponding to the user and popularity information associated with a plurality of media content items and a plurality of content sources; selecting a media content item from the plurality of media content items based at least in part on the popularity information associated with each of the plurality of media content items and the search terms from the received query, wherein the selected media content item is available from the plurality of content sources; selecting at least one content source from the plurality of content sources based at least in part on the location information associated with the user and the popularity information associated with each of the plurality of content sources; and causing a recommendation interface to be presented to the user, wherein the recommendation interface includes the selected media content item that is provided from the at least one selected content source.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for providing media guidance, the method comprising: receiving, using a hardware processor, a search query from a user having a user account; determining, using the hardware processor, location information associated with the user account and device information associated with the user account, wherein the device information is associated with a media device, wherein the location information includes approximated locations of the media device, and wherein at least one of the approximated locations is a home location of the user account; determining, using the hardware processor, that a first search term within ef the search query falls within a location category that implies a location that corresponds with the home location associated with the user account, a second search term within the search query falls within a timing category that implies a time that corresponds with a particular time, and a third search term within the search query falls within a device category that implies a device that corresponds with the device information associated with the user account; determining, using the hardware processor, that a plurality of media content items are available for playback at the implied location associated with the user at the implied time via the implied device; selecting, using the hardware processor, at least one media content item from the plurality of media content items based on popularity information associated with each of the plurality of media content items; and causing, using the hardware processor, a recommendation interface to be presented, wherein the recommendation interface includes the at least one media content item. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of media content items is available from one of a plurality of content sources and wherein the method further comprises: selecting at least one content source from the plurality of content sources based on the implied location and popularity information associated with each of the plurality of content sources, wherein the at least one media content item included in the recommendation interface is provided from the at least one selected content source. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising ranking the plurality of media content items based on the popularity information, wherein the at least one media content item is selected based on the ranking. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media content item is provided from a live content source that is available based on the implied location and the popularity information. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media content item is selected based on one or more applications installed on a device associated with the user account. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media content item is selected from an on-demand content source that is available to an external streaming media device associated with the user account. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media content item is selected from an on-demand content source that is available based on one or more applications associated with a media device that is at or near the implied location information associated with the user account. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recommendation interface includes one or more recommendation reasons that the at least one media content item was selected. 9. A system for providing media guidance, the system comprising: a hardware processor that is configured to: receive a search query from a user having a user account; determine location information associated with the user account and device information associated with the user account, wherein the device information is associated with a media device, wherein the location information includes approximated locations of the media device, and wherein at least one of the approximated locations is a home location of the user account; determine that a first search term within the search query falls within a location category that implies a location that corresponds with the home location associated with the user account, a second search term within the search query falls within a timing category that implies a time that corresponds with a particular time, and a third search term within the search query falls within a device category that implies a device that corresponds with the device information associated with the user account; determine that a plurality of media content items are available for playback at the implied location associated with the user at the implied time via the implied device; select at least one media content item from the plurality of media content items based on popularity information associated with each of the plurality of media content items; and cause a recommendation interface to be presented, wherein the recommendation interface includes the at least one media content item. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of media content items is available from one of a plurality of content sources and wherein the hardware processor is further configured to: select at least one content source from the plurality of content sources based on the implied location and popularity information associated with each of the plurality of content sources, wherein the at least one media content item included in the recommendation interface is provided from the at least one selected content source. 11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to rank the plurality of media content items based on the popularity information, wherein the at least one media content item is selected based on the ranking. 12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one media content item is provided from a live content source that is available based on the implied location and the popularity information. 13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one media content item is selected based on one or more applications installed on a device associated with the user account. 14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one media content item is selected from an on-demand content source that is available to an external streaming media device associated with the user account. 15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one media content item is selected from an on-demand content source that is available based on one or more applications associated with a media device that is at or near the implied location information associated with the user account. 16. The system of claim 9 , wherein the recommendation interface includes one or more recommendation reasons that the at least one media content item was selected. 17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing computer executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method for providing media guidance, the method comprising: receiving a search query from a user having a user account; determining location information associated with the user account and device information associated with the user account, wherein the device information is associated with a media device, wherein the location information includes approximated locations of the media device, and wherein at least one of the approximated locations is a home location of the user account; determining that a first search term within the search query falls within a location category that implies a location that corresponds with the home location associated with the user account, a second search te
