Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

There are provided systems and methods for wireless beacon devices for use in managing transportation service terminals. A user may travel with a device, such as a communication device, that includes a communication module that may utilize specialized hardware features to establish short range wireless communications with nearby wireless beacons. The wireless beacons may be established at or nearby transportation service terminals, such as bus/train stops. The beacon may provide the aforementioned communication services with the communication device and be utilized to determine whether the user will utilize a transportation service for the terminal. If the user wishes to utilize the transportation service, a transportation service may be alerted. The user may also be alerted of an expected time of arrival for the transportation service, other transportation services available at the transportation terminal, and/or of nearby transportation terminals.

What is claimed is: 1. A system comprising: one or more computer-readable memories storing program instructions; and one or more processors configured to execute the program instructions to cause the system to perform operations comprising: detecting reception of a first communication device identifier corresponding to a first communication device from a first beacon device of a plurality of beacon devices associated with a first transportation terminal; determining a first transportation service from a plurality of transportation services associated with the first transportation terminal based on analyzing user information associated with a first user of the first communication device; detecting reception of the first communication device identifier from a second beacon device of the plurality of beacon devices, the second beacon device located within the first transportation terminal; and in response to the detecting the reception of the first communication device identifier from the second beacon device, transmitting an alert to a device associated with the first transportation service, the alert including information corresponding to the first user. 2. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising: in response to the detecting the reception of the first communication device identifier from the second beacon device, automatically performing a check-in of the first user with the first transportation service. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information corresponding to the first user included in the alert comprises identity information of the first user and a location of the first user. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information corresponding to the first user included in the alert comprises a destination of the first user and information associated with a pre-purchased ticket associated with the first user. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first beacon device is located in a location that is different from the first transportation terminal. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first transportation service is a bus, a subway, a train, a taxi, or a shuttle. 7. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising: receiving a first notification of a time delay corresponding to the first transportation service from the device associated with the first transportation service; and transmitting a second notification to the first communication device, the second notification including information associated with the time delay. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the analyzing user information associated with the first user of the first communication device includes analyzing an electronic calendar associated with the first user to identify the first transportation service from the plurality of transportation services. 9. A method comprising: detecting reception of a first communication device identifier corresponding to a first communication device from a first beacon device of a plurality of beacon devices associated with a first transportation terminal; determining a first transportation service from a plurality of transportation services associated with the first transportation terminal based on analyzing user information associated with a first user of the first communication device; detecting reception of the first communication device identifier from a second beacon device of the plurality of beacon devices, the second beacon device located within the first transportation terminal; and in response to the detecting the reception of the first communication device identifier from the second beacon device, transmitting an alert to a device associated with the first transportation service, the alert including information corresponding to the first user. 10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising: in response to the detecting the reception of the first communication device identifier from the second beacon device, automatically performing a check-in of the first user with the first transportation service. 11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the information corresponding to the first user included in the alert comprises identity information of the first user and a destination of the first user. 12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the information corresponding to the first user included in the alert comprises a location of the first user and information associated with a pre-purchased ticket associated with the first user. 13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first beacon device is located in a location that is different from the first transportation terminal. 14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first transportation service is a bus, a subway, a train, a taxi, or a shuttle. 15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising: receiving a first notification of a time delay corresponding to the first transportation service from the device associated with the first transportation service; and transmitting a second notification to the first communication device, the second notification including information associated with the time delay. 16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the analyzing user information associated with the first user of the first communication device includes analyzing an electronic calendar associated with the first user to identify the first transportation service from the plurality of transportation services. 17. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing program instructions, the program instructions when executed cause a machine to perform operations comprising: detecting reception of a first communication device identifier corresponding to a first communication device from a first beacon device of a plurality of beacon devices associated with a first transportation terminal; determining a first transportation service from a plurality of transportation services associated with the first transportation terminal based on analyzing user information associated with a first user of the first communication device; detecting reception of the first communication device identifier from a second beacon device of the plurality of beacon devices, the second beacon device located within the first transportation terminal; and in response to the detecting the reception of the first communication device identifier from the second beacon device, transmitting an alert to a device associated with the first transportation service, the alert including information corresponding to the first user. 18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the analyzing user information associated with the first user of the first communication device includes analyzing an electronic calendar associated with the first user to identify the first transportation service from the plurality of transportation services. 19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the information corresponding to the first user included in the alert comprises identity information of the first user and information associated with a pre-purchased ticket associated with the first user. 20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the first beacon device is located in a location that is different from the first transportation terminal.
