Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A harvester includes a chassis, a separation frame movably supported by the chassis and upon which crop material is deposited, a reciprocating drive operably coupled to the separation frame to reciprocate the separation frame, a control system, a sensor programmed to produce a signal indicative of a tilt of the chassis relative to a gravitational direction, and programmed to provide the signal to the control system, and an adjustable link operably coupled between the separation frame and the chassis to adjust a pivot point of the separation frame. The control system is programmed to determine a change in tilt of the chassis based on the signal from the sensor. The controller is programmed to adjust the adjustable link to modify the pivot point of the separation frame in response to the change in tilt of the chassis.

What is claimed is: 1. A harvester comprising: a chassis; a separation frame movably supported by the chassis and upon which crop material is deposited; a reciprocating drive operably coupled to the separation frame to reciprocate the separation frame; a control system; a sensor programmed to produce a signal indicative of a tilt of the chassis relative to a gravitational direction, and programmed to provide the signal to the control system; an adjustable link operably coupled between the separation frame and the chassis to adjust a pivot point of the separation frame; wherein the control system is programmed to determine a change in tilt of the chassis based on the signal from the sensor, and wherein the controller is programmed to adjust the adjustable link to modify the pivot point of the separation frame in response to the change in tilt of the chassis. 2. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein the separation frame is one of a sieve, chaffer, or return pan. 3. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein the adjustable link comprises a powered linear actuator. 4. The harvester of claim 3 , wherein the powered linear actuator comprises a cylinder-piston assembly. 5. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein the reciprocating drive is operable to reciprocate the separation frame in a motion having a vertical component parallel to the gravitational direction and a horizontal component perpendicular to the gravitational direction. 6. The harvester of claim 5 , wherein, in response to a positive change in tilt indicative of an increased grade, the controller is programmed to adjust the adjustable link to increase the horizontal component of the motion of the separation frame, and to decrease the vertical component of the motion of the separation frame. 7. The harvester of claim 6 , wherein, in response to a negative change in tilt indicative of a decreased grade, the controller is programmed to adjust the adjustable link to decrease the horizontal component of the motion of the separation frame, and to increase the vertical component of the motion of the separation frame. 8. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein determining the change in tilt of the chassis based on the signal from the sensor includes determining whether the tilt of the chassis has increased or decreased relative to a prior measurement from the sensor. 9. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein determining the change in tilt of the chassis based on the signal from the sensor includes determining whether the tilt of the chassis has increased or decreased relative to a point of reference. 10. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein the tilt of the chassis measured by the sensor is a pitch of the chassis defined as rotation about a side-to-side axis. 11. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein the tilt of the chassis measured by the sensor is a roll of the chassis defined as a rotation about a front-to-back axis. 12. The harvester of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is a first sensor programmed to measure a pitch of the chassis, the harvester further comprising a second sensor programmed to measure the roll of the chassis, wherein the control system is programmed to determine the change in tilt of the chassis based on the signal from the first sensor and the second sensor. 13. A method of operating a harvester having a separation frame movably supported by a chassis, the method comprising: sensing a signal indicative of a tilt of the chassis of the harvester relative to a gravitational direction; determining a change in tilt of the chassis via the signal; and adjusting a pivot point of the separation frame supported by the chassis in response to the change in tilt of the chassis. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein adjusting the pivot point includes actuating a powered linear actuator to adjust the location of the pivot point of the separation frame. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein sensing a signal indicative of a tilt of the chassis includes measuring a pitch or roll of the chassis. 16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the separation frame moves in a reciprocating motion having a vertical component and a horizontal component, wherein adjusting the pivot point of the separation frame adjusts the ratio between the vertical component and the horizontal component. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein determining a change in tilt of the chassis includes determining whether the tilt is indicative of an increased grade or a decreased grade, and respectively increasing or decreasing the horizontal component of the reciprocating motion of the separation frame in response. 18. The method of claim 13 , wherein determining a change in tilt of the chassis via the signal includes comparing the sensed tilt of the chassis relative to a prior measurement. 19. The method of claim 13 , wherein determining a change in tilt of the chassis via the signal includes comparing the sensed tilt of the chassis to a point of reference. 20. The method of claim 13 , further comprising adjusting the pivot point of the separation frame in response to a loading of material on the separation frame.
