Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A device includes a balloon inflation module having an involuted balloon housed within a lumen, an integrated reservoir in fluid communication with the involuted balloon where the balloon inflation module is configured to selectively displace a volume of fluid from the integrated reservoir into the involuted balloon and from the involuted balloon into the integrated reservoir. The device also includes a port configured to receive an accessory module. In one embodiment, the accessory module is a communication module having a logic circuit coupled to an ambient microphone configured to pick up ambient audio content, an ear canal microphone configured to pick up audio in the proximity of an ear canal, and an ear canal receiver configured to provide audio content in the proximity of the ear canal. In some embodiments, the integrated reservoir is formed within portions of a push button spring-loaded pump assembly. Other embodiments are disclosed.

We claim: 1. An earphone system, comprising: an inflation management system, wherein the inflation management system comprises: a lumen; a balloon operatively connected to the lumen; a manual pump system attached to the lumen, where the manual pump system is configured to include a deformable portion that partially encompasses a region, where the deformable portion is configured to be deformed by the user to move at least a portion of a fluid in the region into the balloon; and a separable accessory device, wherein the accessory device comprises: a speaker; and a processor; wherein the separable accessory device detachably couples to the inflation management system; and wherein the lumen is configured to convey fluid into the balloon when the inflation management system is placed in an ear of a user. 2. The earphone system of claim 1 , wherein the inflation management system comprises a housing with a port to which the separable accessory device detachably couples. 3. The earphone system of claim 2 , wherein the separable accessory device detachably couples to the port by insertion of the separable accessory device in the port. 4. The earphone system of claim 1 , wherein separable accessory device further comprises a microphone and the separable accessory device controls the speaker and the microphone. 5. The earphone system of claim 1 , wherein the separable accessory device further comprises a first ambient microphone, a second ambient microphone, an ear canal microphone, an ear canal receiver, or a combination thereof. 6. The earphone system of claim 5 , wherein the lumen comprises a multi-lumen structure having a balloon lumen for the balloon and an acoustic lumen for the first ambient microphone, the second ambient microphone, the ear canal microphone, the ear canal receiver, or a combination thereof. 7. The earphone system of claim 6 , wherein the multi-lumen structure has multiple acoustic lumens, each acoustic lumen of the multiple acoustic lumens is for a separate acoustic component. 8. The earphone system of claim 1 , wherein the balloon is at least partially retractable in the lumen. 9. The earphone system of claim 1 , wherein the separable accessory device further comprises a communication system. 10. An earphone system, comprising: an inflation management system, wherein the inflation management system comprises: a lumen; a balloon operatively connected to the lumen; a manual pump system attached to the lumen, where the manual pump system is configured to include a deformable portion that partially encompasses a region, where the deformable portion is configured to be deformed by the user to move at least a portion of a fluid in the region into the balloon; and a separable accessory device, wherein the accessory device comprises: a microphone; and a processor; wherein the separable accessory device detachably couples to the inflation management system; and wherein the lumen is configured to convey fluid into the balloon when the inflation management system is placed in an ear of a user. 11. The earphone system of claim 10 , wherein the inflation management system comprises a housing with a port to which the separable accessory device detachably couples. 12. The earphone system of claim 11 , wherein the separable accessory device detachably couples to the port by insertion of the separable accessory device in the port. 13. The earphone system of claim 10 , wherein the separable accessory device further comprises a speaker and separable accessory device controls the microphone and the speaker. 14. The earphone system of claim 10 , wherein the microphone is a first ambient microphone and the separable accessory device further comprises a second ambient microphone, an ear canal microphone, an ear canal receiver, or a combination thereof. 15. The earphone system of claim 14 , wherein the lumen comprises a multi-lumen structure having a balloon lumen for the balloon and an acoustic lumen for the first ambient microphone, the second ambient microphone, the ear canal microphone, the ear canal receiver, or a combination thereof. 16. The earphone system of claim 15 , wherein the multi-lumen structure has multiple acoustic lumens, each acoustic lumen of the multiple acoustics lumens is for a separate acoustic component. 17. The earphone system of claim 10 , wherein the balloon is at least partially retractable in the lumen. 18. The earphone system of claim 10 , wherein the separable accessory device further comprises a communication system. 19. An earphone system, comprising: an inflation management system, wherein the inflation management system comprises: an inflation management system housing; a lumen; an inflatable balloon operatively connected to the inflation management system housing; a manual pump system attached to the lumen, where the manual pump system is configured to include a deformable portion that partially encompasses a region, where the deformable portion is configured to be deformed by the user to move at least a portion of a fluid in the region into the balloon; and a detachable acoustic system, wherein the detachable acoustic system comprises: a speaker; a microphone; and a processor; wherein the detachable acoustic system detachably couples to the inflation management system housing; wherein the balloon is configured to inflate when the inflation management system is placed in an ear of a user. 20. The earphone system of claim 19 , wherein the microphone is a first ambient microphone and the acoustic system further comprises a second ambient microphone, an ear canal microphone, an ear canal receiver, or a combination thereof.
