The disclosure extends to apparatuses, methods, and systems, for producing frozen confections and conditioning ice for use in frozen confections. A frozen confection machine includes a hopper portion for receiving ice into an interior, and a motor configured to rotate a drive shaft, a blade to condition the ice in the hopper during rotation of the motor. The frozen confection machine also includes a lid for selectively covering the interior of the hopper, a bias member for biasing the lid away from a closed position, and a switch for causing the motor to actuate in response to the lid being pressed to a closed position.

What is claimed is: 1. A frozen confection machine comprising: a hopper comprising an upper portion and a lower portion; an ice conditioning blade comprising a plurality of slots formed therein; a paddle wheel comprising a top surface and at least one paddle for driving ice to the ice conditioning blade; and a spout connected to the frozen confection machine, wherein the spout is positioned to receive ice through one or more of the plurality of slots of the blade and dispense the ice out of the spout; wherein the ice conditioning blade is located between the hopper and the spout in the lower portion of the hopper; and wherein the paddle wheel is positioned in the hopper such that the top surface is the same height as a bottommost portion of at least one of the plurality of slots in the blade. 2. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein the spout guides conditioned ice out of the blade down to a bottom of the spout. 3. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein the blade is disposed at an opening of the spout. 4. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein of the upper portion of the hopper is tapered from widest at a top of the upper portion of the hopper to narrowest at a bottom of the upper portion of the hopper. 5. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , further comprising a lid. 6. The frozen confection machine of claim 5 , wherein the lid is biased in an open position. 7. The frozen confection machine of claim 6 , wherein the frozen confection machine operates only when the lid is closed. 8. The frozen confection machine of claim 7 , further comprising a switch which prevents operation of the frozen confection machine when the lid is in the open position. 9. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein the paddle wheel is positioned in the lower portion of the hopper. 10. The frozen confection machine of claim 9 , wherein the paddle wheel includes the at least one paddle that extends up to a top of the lower portion of the hopper. 11. The frozen confection machine of claim 10 , wherein the at least one paddle extends to a point that is as high as at least a top of a slot in the blade. 12. The frozen confection machine of claim 11 , wherein the at least one paddle extends to a point that is higher than at least a top of one slot in the blade. 13. The frozen confection machine of claim 9 , wherein the at least one paddle extends to a point that is lower than a top of one slot in the blade. 14. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , further comprising: a housing comprising a base for supporting the frozen confection machine on a surface; a motor comprising a drive shaft disposed within the housing; wherein both the drive shaft and the spout are positioned at angles that are offset from vertical. 15. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein the paddle wheel comprises a plurality of paddles. 16. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein two or more of the plurality of slots are offset from each other in a direction in which the plurality of slots extend. 17. The frozen confection machine of claim 16 , wherein two or more of the plurality of slots are offset from each other relative to a center of the blade such that at least a first slot of the plurality of slots is disposed mostly above the center of the blade and at least a second slot of the plurality of slots is disposed mostly below the center of the blade. 18. The frozen confection machine of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of slots are offset from each other in an alternating pattern such that each slot of the plurality of slots is offset from an adjacent slot. 19. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein the paddle wheel is positioned in the hopper such that the paddle has a height that is shorter than a height of a topmost slot in the blade. 20. The frozen confection machine of claim 1 , wherein the blade is stationary with respect to the paddle wheel.
