An automatic transmission includes a main transmission and an auxiliary transmission. The auxiliary transmission includes an auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism, a first clutch, and a second clutch. The auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism is provided between a pair of main-transmission-side planetary gear mechanisms, and a part of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism is located within the main transmission. The first clutch fixes rotation of a sun gear of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism. The second clutch connects a ring gear of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism with the sun gear.

What is claimed is: 1. An automatic transmission comprising: a main transmission including a plurality of main-transmission-side planetary gear mechanisms; an auxiliary transmission having a rotational axis that is different from a rotational axis of the main transmission, the auxiliary transmission including an auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism, a first clutch, and a second clutch; the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism including a sun gear, a ring gear configured to receive power from the main transmission, and a carrier configured to deliver the power, the sun gear, the ring gear and the carrier of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism being provided between a pair of main-transmission-side planetary gear mechanisms included in the plurality of main-transmission-side planetary gear mechanisms and located adjacent to each other in a direction of the rotational axis of the main transmission, and a part of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism radially overlaps the main transmission, the first clutch being configured to fix the sun gear of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism, the second clutch being configured to connect the ring gear with the sun gear, the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism is located between a counter gear pair and a final gear pair in the direction of the rotational axis of the auxiliary transmission, and at least a portion from a tooth portion of the ring gear of the auxiliary-transmission-side planetary gear mechanism to a tooth portion of the counter gear pair on a ring gear side via an outer circumferential surface overlaps at least one of the main-transmission-side planetary gear mechanisms of the main transmission; and a Low-High switching mechanism configured to switch the auxiliary transmission between a Low mode and a High mode, by selectively releasing the first clutch and the second clutch, the Low-High switching mechanism being configured to switch the auxiliary transmission between the Low mode and the High mode when a gear position of the automatic transmission is a 6th-speed gear position, wherein the gear position of the automatic transmission is set to one gear position selected from 1st-speed to 6th-speed gear positions when the auxiliary transmission is in the Low mode, and is set to one gear position selected from 6th-speed to 10th-speed gear positions when the auxiliary transmission is in the High mode. 2. The automatic transmission according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first clutch and the second clutch are a dog clutch. 3. The automatic transmission according to claim 2 , further comprising an electric actuator configured to switch the dog clutch between an engaged state and a released state.
