Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A vehicle includes a passenger cabin, an inverter, and a coolant system having conduit arranged to circulate coolant through the inverter and an evaporator. A refrigerant system includes a condenser and conduit arranged to circulate refrigerant through the condenser and through the evaporator to absorb heat generated by the inverter. A climate control system is arranged to circulate an airstream through the condenser and into the cabin to heat the cabin.

What is claimed is: 1. A vehicle comprising: a passenger cabin; an inverter; a coolant system including conduit arranged to circulate coolant through the inverter and an evaporator; a refrigerant system including a condenser and conduit arranged to circulate refrigerant through the condenser and through the evaporator to absorb heat generated by the inverter; and a climate control system including a housing having the condenser disposed therein, the climate control system being arranged to circulate an airstream through the condenser and into the cabin to heat the cabin, wherein the climate control system further includes an exterior vent and a blend door configured to route the airstream to the exterior vent to discharge the airstream from the vehicle; and a controller programmed to, responsive to cabin heating not being requested, actuate the blend door to route the airstream to the exterior vent. 2. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the coolant system further includes a radiator and a valve configured to proportion coolant circulating from the inverter between the evaporator and the radiator. 3. The vehicle of claim 1 further comprising a DC/DC converter, and wherein the coolant system is further arranged to circulate the coolant through the DC/DC converter. 4. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the coolant system further includes a radiator and a valve having a first position configured to route coolant circulating from the inverter to the evaporator and a second position configured to route coolant circulating from the inverter to the radiator. 5. The vehicle of claim 4 , wherein the controller is further programmed to, actuate the valve to the first position responsive to cabin heating being requested, and actuate the valve to the second position responsive to cabin heating not being requested. 6. A vehicle comprising: a passenger cabin; an inverter; a coolant system including conduit arranged to circulate coolant through the inverter and an evaporator; a refrigerant system including a condenser and conduit arranged to circulate refrigerant through the condenser and through the evaporator to absorb heat generated by the inverter; a climate control system including a housing, a blend door disposed in the housing, and an exterior vent, wherein the condenser is disposed in the housing, and the blend door includes a first position in which the condenser is in fluid communication with the exterior vent and a second position in which the condenser is in fluid communication with the passenger cabin; and a controller programmed to, responsive to cabin heating not being requested, actuate the blend door the first position. 7. The vehicle of claim 6 , wherein the controller is further programmed to, responsive to cabin heating being requested, actuate the blend door to the second position. 8. The vehicle of claim 6 , wherein the coolant system further includes a radiator and a valve configured to proportion coolant circulating from the inverter between the evaporator and the radiator. 9. The vehicle of claim 6 further comprising a DC/DC converter, and wherein the coolant system is further arranged to circulate the coolant through the DC/DC converter. 10. The vehicle of claim 6 , wherein the coolant system further includes a radiator and a valve having a first position configured to route coolant circulating from the inverter to the evaporator and a second position configured to route coolant circulating from the inverter to the radiator. 11. The vehicle of claim 10 , wherein the controller is further programmed to, actuate the valve to the first position responsive to cabin heating being requested, and actuate the valve to the second position responsive to cabin heating not being requested. 12. The vehicle of claim 6 , wherein the condenser is disposed in the housing upstream of the exterior vent. 13. The vehicle of claim 6 , wherein the condenser is disposed in the housing upstream of the blend door. 14. The vehicle of claim 13 , wherein the condenser is disposed in the housing upstream of the exterior vent. 15. The vehicle of claim 14 , wherein the blend door is disposed in the housing downstream of the exterior vent.
