Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Provided is a snap button in which a swaged portion of a to-be-swaged pin is not visible from users. The snap button comprises a snap button body and a cap to be connected to the snap button body with a cloth interposed between them. The snap button body includes a base; a pin to be swaged, which protrudes from an inner surface of the base, the inner surface being placed to face the cloth; and an engaging portion provided on an outer surface opposite to the inner surface of the base. The cap comprises a cap body including a cap base; and a metal eyelet attached to an inner surface of the cap base, the inner surface being placed to face the cloth. The eyelet comprises a cylindrical portion for receiving the pin which has pierced the cloth and swaging the pin on the inner surface of the cap base.

The invention claimed is: 1. A snap button comprising a snap button body and a cap connected to the snap button body with a cloth interposed between them, wherein the snap button body comprises a base; a pin to be swaged, which protrudes from an inner surface of the base, the inner surface being placed to face the cloth; and an engaging portion provided on an outer surface opposite to the inner surface of the base, wherein the engaging portion is one of a male engaging portion and a female engaging portion, wherein the male engaging portion includes an enlarged diameter portion and the female engaging portion includes a reduced diameter portion, wherein the one of the male engaging portion and the female engaging portion of the snap button body is configured to engage with and disengage from one of a female engaging portion and a male engaging portion of a second snap button body of a second snap button, the second snap button body being one of a second male snap button body comprising the male engaging portion of the second snap button body and a second female snap button body comprising the female engaging portion of the second snap button body, the male engaging portion of the second snap button body including an enlarged diameter portion and the female engaging portion of the second snap button body including a reduced diameter portion, wherein the cap comprises a cap body including a cap base; and a metal eyelet attached to an inner surface of the cap base, the inner surface being placed to face the cloth, and wherein the eyelet comprises a cylindrical portion receiving the pin, the cylindrical portion defining a side wall defining an inner peripheral surface and an outer peripheral surface, the cloth being pierced by the pin, and the pin being swaged within the cylindrical portion and on the inner surface of the cap base. 2. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein the snap button body and the cap body are made of resin. 3. The snap button according to claim 2 , wherein the eyelet includes a thin wall portion at a cloth-side end of the cylindrical portion, wherein the thin wall portion covers at least a part of an opening of the cylindrical portion and has a thickness thinner than that of a side wall of the cylindrical portion, the thin wall portion being pierced by the pin. 4. The snap button according to claim 3 , wherein the thin wall portion includes a hole at its center. 5. The snap button according to claim 2 , wherein a depression is formed at a center portion on the inner surface of the cap base. 6. The snap button according to claim 2 , wherein a small raised portion is formed on the inner surface of the cap base of the cap body. 7. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein the eyelet includes a thin wall portion at a cloth-side end of the cylindrical portion, wherein the thin wall portion covers at least a part of an opening of the cylindrical portion and has a thickness thinner than that of a side wall of the cylindrical portion, the thin wall portion being pierced by the pin. 8. The snap button according to claim 7 , wherein the thin wall portion includes a hole at its center. 9. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein a depression is formed at a center portion on the inner surface of the cap base. 10. The snap button according to claim 9 , wherein a small raised portion is formed on the inner surface of the cap base of the cap body, the depression defined radially inward from the small raised portion. 11. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein a small raised portion is formed on the inner surface of the cap base of the cap body. 12. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein the engaging portion is the male engaging portion. 13. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein the cap body defines an annular projection protruding upward from the inner surface of the cap base at a position radially inward from a peripheral side portion of the cap base, the annular projection fixing the metal eyelet to the cap body. 14. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein the male engaging portion or the female engaging portion is provided on an outer surface opposite to the inner surface of the base. 15. The snap button according to claim 1 , wherein the eyelet further comprises a flange portion extending radially outward from a lower end of the cylindrical portion of the eyelet. 16. A snap button comprising a snap button body and a cap connected to the snap button body with a cloth interposed between them, wherein the snap button body comprises a base; a pin to be swaged, which protrudes from an inner surface of the base, the inner surface being placed to face the cloth; and an engaging portion provided on an outer surface opposite to the inner surface of the base, wherein the engaging portion is one of a male engaging portion and a female engaging portion, wherein the male engaging portion includes an enlarged diameter portion and the female engaging portion includes a reduced diameter portion, wherein the one of the male engaging portion and the female engaging portion of the snap button body is configured to engage with and disengage from one of a female engaging portion and a male engaging portion of a second snap button body of a second snap button, the second snap button body being one of a second male snap button body comprising the male engaging portion of the second snap button body and a second female snap button body comprising the female engaging portion of the second snap button body, the male engaging portion of the second snap button body including an enlarged diameter portion and the female engaging portion of the second snap button body including a reduced diameter portion, wherein the cap comprises a cap body including a cap base; and a metal eyelet attached to an inner surface of the cap base, the inner surface being placed to face the cloth, wherein the eyelet comprises a cylindrical portion receiving the pin, the cloth being pierced by the pin, and the pin being swaged on the inner surface of the cap base; and wherein the cap body defines an annular projection protruding upward from the inner surface of the cap base at a position radially inward from a peripheral side portion of the cap base, the annular projection fixing the metal eyelet to the cap body.
