A color splash effect is established by a darker backdrop color of an outer surface of a liquid proof and heat resistant glove in the event that a portion of the glove ruptures or fails. The color splash effect is accomplished by a lighter and brighter color being visible through the rupture in the glove. The lighter and brighter color may be formed on or as part of a protective member positioned beneath the outer layer. The protective member also protects the wearer against sharp objects contacting the outer layer of the glove and moving over the protective member. Some embodiments provide that the protective member is in a thumb crotch region of the glove.

What is claimed: 1. A liquid proof and heat resistant glove comprising: an outer layer defining an outer surface shaped in the form of one of a glove and a mitten, and defining an inner surface of the outer layer opposite the outer surface shaped in the form of one of the glove and the mitten, wherein the outer layer is formed from a material that is liquid impermeable and withstands thermal deformation at a temperature of at least 300° F., wherein the inner surface of the outer layer defines a palmar side, a dorsal side, and a thumb crotch region extending between the palmar side and the dorsal side; an inner liner; and a protective member disposed between the inner surface of the outer layer and the inner liner, wherein the protective member is formed from a material type that is different than the outer layer and the inner liner, and wherein the protective member is adjacent to the palmar side, the dorsal side, and the thumb crotch region wherein the outer surface and the inner surface define a first sleeve adapted to receive a thumb and a second sleeve adapted to receive an index finger, wherein the thumb crotch region is between the first sleeve and the second sleeve; wherein the protective member comprises: a first portion; a second portion joined to the first portion; and a third portion joined to the first portion, wherein the second portion is adjacent to the first sleeve, wherein the third portion is adjacent to the second sleeve, and wherein the first portion is adjacent to the thumb crotch, the palmar side, and the dorsal side; wherein the first portion comprises: a first slit; and a second slit, wherein the second portion is between the first slit, and wherein the third portion is between the second slit. 2. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the first portion is mechanically joined to the second portion and the third portion. 3. The glove of claim 2 , wherein the first portion is joined to the second portion and the third portion by a threaded stich. 4. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the first portion is chemically joined to the second portion. 5. The glove of claim 4 , wherein the first portion is joined to the second portion and the third portion by one of thermal welding or an adhesive glue. 6. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the protective member is a unibody monolithic member. 7. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the protective member further comprises: a first region; a second region; and a protective region, wherein the first region is adjacent to the palmar side, wherein the second region is adjacent to the dorsal side, and wherein the protective region is adjacent to the thumb crotch region. 8. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the protective member further comprises: a first surface; and a second surface opposite the first surface, wherein the first surface is adjacent to the inner surface of the outer layer, and wherein the second surface is adjacent to the inner liner. 9. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the protective member is U-shaped when viewed from the palmar side. 10. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the protective member is C-shaped in cross section. 11. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the outer layer is a single layer formed from the first material. 12. The glove of claim 11 , wherein the outer surface and the inner surface are formed of the same material. 13. The liquid proof and heat resistant glove of claim 1 , further comprising: a major surface of the protective member, wherein the major surface is adjacent to the thumb crotch region. 14. The liquid proof and heat resistant glove of claim 13 , wherein the major surface entirely occupies the thumb crotch region and extends beyond the thumb crotch region. 15. The liquid proof and heat resistant glove of claim 1 , wherein the material forming the protective member is more resistant to failure than the outer layer when a sharpened edge is contacted with the outer layer and moved over the protective member. 16. The glove of claim 1 , wherein the protective member comprises: a first edge positioned adjacent to the dorsal side of the inner surface, a second edge positioned adjacent to the palmar side of the inner surface, a third edge extending between the first edge and the second edge, a fourth edge extending between the first edge and the second edge, a first rounded corner, a second rounded corner, a third rounded corner, and a fourth rounded corner, wherein the first edge meets the third edge at the first rounded corner, wherein the second edge meets the third edge at the second rounded corner, wherein the first edge meets the fourth edge at the third rounded corner, and wherein the second edge meets the fourth edge at the fourth rounded corner.
