Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A vehicle includes a chassis and a lift assembly. The chassis includes a frame defining a pair of tow points. The lift assembly includes an adapter assembly and a lift device. The adapter assembly includes a first adapter and a second adapter, each adapter configured to be coupled to one of the pair of tow points, and each adapter defining an adapter aperture, and a cross member extending laterally across the vehicle and received by each adapter aperture. The lift device includes a lift base and a pair of receivers coupled to the lift base and configured to engage with the cross member of the adapter assembly. The pair of receivers support the cross member in a vertical direction. The adapter assembly is configured to receive and redirect a lifting force of the lift device to selectively reconfigure the vehicle between a lowered position and an elevated position.

The invention claimed is: 1. A vehicle system, comprising: a chassis including a frame defining a first tow point and a second tow point, the first tow point defining a first tow aperture and a second tow aperture; and a lift assembly including: an adapter assembly including: a first adapter defining a first pin aperture and a second pin aperture; a first pin extending through the first tow aperture and the first pin aperture and a second pin extending through the second tow aperture and the second pin aperture to selectively couple the first adapter to the first tow point; and a second adapter selectively coupled to the second tow point, wherein each adapter defines an adapter aperture, and wherein the first pin aperture and the adapter apertures each extend laterally when the adapters are coupled to the tow points; and a cross member configured to extend laterally across the chassis to be received by each adapter aperture; and a lift device including: a lift base; and a pair of receivers coupled to the lift base and configured to engage the cross member of the adapter assembly to support the cross member in a vertical direction; wherein the adapter assembly is configured to receive and redirect a lifting force of the lift device to selectively reconfigure the vehicle between a lowered position and an elevated position. 2. The vehicle system of claim 1 , wherein the pair of receivers partially enclose the cross member such that the cross member is liftable vertically by the pair of receivers. 3. The vehicle system of claim 2 , wherein the lift assembly further includes a pair of stands configured to receive the cross member and support the vehicle in the elevated position, and wherein both the pair of stands and the pair of receivers are simultaneously engageable with the cross member. 4. The vehicle system of claim 3 , wherein the pair of receivers are spaced apart a first distance, wherein the pair of stands are configured to be spaced apart a second distance greater than the first distance, and wherein the pair of receivers are disengageable from the cross member while the pair of stands support the vehicle in the elevated position. 5. The vehicle system of claim 4 , wherein the pair of receivers each comprise a semicircular shape and have an open upper portion. 6. The vehicle system of claim 1 , wherein each adapter includes a pair of plates spaced apart from one another and configured to receive one of the tow points of the vehicle therebetween. 7. A lift assembly for lifting a vehicle including a chassis, comprising: an adapter assembly including: a first adapter and a second adapter, each adapter defining a first pin aperture configured to selectively receive a first pin and a second pin aperture configured to selectively receive a second pin to selectively couple the corresponding adapter to one of a pair of tow points of the vehicle, and each adapter defining an adapter aperture, wherein the first pin aperture and the adapter aperture of each adapter extend substantially parallel to one another; and a cross member configured to be received by each adapter aperture; and a lift device including: a lift base; and a pair of receivers coupled to the lift base and configured to engage the cross member of the adapter assembly to support the cross member in a vertical direction, wherein the cross member can be lifted vertically away from the pair of receivers; wherein the adapter assembly is configured to receive and redirect a lifting force of the lift device to selectively reconfigure the vehicle between a lowered position and an elevated position. 8. The lift assembly of claim 7 , wherein the pair of receivers are configured to partially enclose the cross member. 9. The lift assembly of claim 8 , wherein the lift assembly further includes a pair of stands configured to receive the cross member and support the vehicle, and wherein both the pair of stands and the pair of receivers may receive the cross member simultaneously. 10. The lift assembly of claim 9 , wherein the pair of receivers are spaced apart a first distance, wherein the pair of stands are configured to be spaced apart a second distance greater than the first distance, and wherein the pair of receivers may be removed from the cross member while the pair of stands support the vehicle in the elevated position. 11. The lift assembly of claim 10 , wherein the pair of receivers each comprise a semicircular shape and have an open upper portion. 12. The lift assembly of claim 7 , wherein each adapter includes a pair of plates spaced apart from one another and configured to receive one of the tow points of the vehicle therebetween. 13. A method for lifting a vehicle including a chassis, comprising: providing a first adapter and a second adapter each defining an adapter aperture, wherein the first adapter further defines a first pin aperture and a second pin aperture, and wherein the first pin aperture and the adapter aperture of the first adapter extend substantially parallel to one another; inserting a first pin through (a) the first pin aperture of the first adapter and (b) a first tow aperture of a first tow point of the vehicle and inserting a second pin through (a) the second pin aperture of the first adapter and (b) a second tow aperture of the first tow point to couple the first adapter to the first tow point of the vehicle; coupling the second adapter to a second tow point of the vehicle; inserting a cross member at least partially through each adapter aperture such that the cross member extends laterally across the vehicle; arranging a lift base coupled to a pair of receivers under the cross member such that the pair of receivers are aligned with the cross member; raising the pair of receivers such that both receivers engage the cross member; applying a lifting force to the adapters through the lift base such that the vehicle is selectively reconfigured from a lowered position to an elevated position; lowering the adapters such that the vehicle is selectively reconfigured from the elevated position to the lowered position; and removing the first pin from the first pin aperture and the second pin from the second pin aperture to remove the first adapter from the first tow point of the vehicle. 14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising: placing a pair of stands below the cross member; and lowering the receivers such that the pair of stands engage the cross member and support the vehicle. 15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the pair of receivers are spaced apart a first distance, wherein the pair of stands are placed such that the pair of stands are spaced apart a second distance greater than the first distance, and wherein the pair of receivers may be removed from the cross member while the pair of stands support the vehicle. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the pair of receivers each comprise a semicircular shape and have an open upper portion. 17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first adapter includes a pair of plates spaced apart from one another, further comprising inserting the first tow point of the vehicle between the pair of plates.
