Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Several ways are provided for a viewer of a movie to create a deep tag, that is, a bookmark for a segment of the movie. The deep tag can be associated with descriptive text and sent to an address provided by the viewer, either an e-mail address or an instant messaging address. Additionally, before the deep tag is created, it can be checked whether the content owner of the movie is known. If known, the content owner's rules, if any, regarding deep tagging are followed. If unknown, a set of registered content owners can be alerted of the presence of new content. When ownership of the new content is established, the already-created deep tags can be updated in accordance with the content owner's rules, if any, regarding deep tagging.

What is claimed is: 1. A method, comprising: providing, by a computer, a user interface having a texture strip, a deep tag marker overlaying the texture strip, and a deep tag actuator, the texture strip comprising frame representations of a video in entirety, the deep tag marker configured for marking a segment of the video over the texture strip; responsive to the deep tag actuator being actuated, determining, by the computer based at least on position information of the deep tag marker relative to the texture strip, deep tag information comprising a start time and an end time for the segment of the video; generating, by the computer utilizing the deep tag information, a deep tag for accessing the segment of the video, the deep tag comprising a deep tag identifier, a video identifier for the video, and the start time and the end time for the segment of the video; and storing, by the computer, the deep tag at a network address, the network address containing at least one of the deep tag identifier, the video identifier, the start time, or the end time for the segment of the video. 2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the generating comprises applying a content owner rule that governs deep tagging of the video. 3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: notifying an owner of the video that the deep tag has been created. 4. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: tracking deep tagging of the video. 5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: sending the network address of the deep tag via email, an instant message, a message service, or podcasting. 6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the user interface further comprises a deep tag bar configured for displaying a visual representation of deep tags that have been created for the video. 7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the computer comprises a user device or a video server. 8. A system, comprising: a processor; a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and stored instructions translatable by the processor for: providing a user interface having a texture strip, a deep tag marker overlaying the texture strip, and a deep tag actuator, the texture strip comprising frame representations of a video in entirety, the deep tag marker configured for marking a segment of the video over the texture strip; responsive to the deep tag actuator being actuated, determining, based at least on position information of the deep tag marker relative to the texture strip, deep tag information comprising a start time and an end time for the segment of the video; generating, utilizing the deep tag information, a deep tag for accessing the segment of the video, the deep tag comprising a deep tag identifier, a video identifier for the video, and the start time and the end time for the segment of the video; and storing the deep tag at a network address, the network address containing at least one of the deep tag identifier, the video identifier, the start time, or the end time for the segment of the video. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the generating comprises applying a content owner rule that governs deep tagging of the video. 10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the stored instructions are further translatable by the processor for: notifying an owner of the video that the deep tag has been created. 11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the stored instructions are further translatable by the processor for: tracking deep tagging of the video. 12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the stored instructions are further translatable by the processor for: sending the network address of the deep tag via email, an instant message, a message service, or podcasting. 13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the user interface further comprises a deep tag bar configured for displaying a visual representation of deep tags that have been created for the video. 14. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions translatable by a processor of a computer for: providing a user interface having a texture strip, a deep tag marker overlaying the texture strip, and a deep tag actuator, the texture strip comprising frame representations of a video in entirety, the deep tag marker configured for marking a segment of the video over the texture strip; responsive to the deep tag actuator being actuated, determining, based at least on position information of the deep tag marker relative to the texture strip, deep tag information comprising a start time and an end time for the segment of the video; generating, utilizing the deep tag information, a deep tag for accessing the segment of the video, the deep tag comprising a deep tag identifier, a video identifier for the video, and the start time and the end time for the segment of the video; and storing the deep tag at a network address, the network address containing at least one of the deep tag identifier, the video identifier, the start time, or the end time for the segment of the video. 15. The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the generating comprises applying a content owner rule that governs deep tagging of the video. 16. The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for: notifying an owner of the video that the deep tag has been created. 17. The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for: tracking deep tagging of the video. 18. The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for: sending the network address of the deep tag via email, an instant message, a message service, or podcasting. 19. The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the user interface further comprises a deep tag bar configured for displaying a visual representation of deep tags that have been created for the video. 20. The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the computer comprises a user device or a video server.
