Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A sealing unit ( 28 ) that fits within the sealing unit opening ( 26 ) of a housing 22 . The sealing unit ( 28 ) including a sealant arrangement ( 32 ) that define a plurality of cable ports ( 30 ). The sealing arrangement is also configured for providing a peripheral seal between the housing ( 22 ) and the sealing unit ( 28 ). The sealing unit ( 28 ) includes an actuation arrangement ( 31 ) for pressurizing the sealant arrangement ( 32 ) within the sealing unit opening ( 26 ). The sealant arrangement ( 32 ) includes a plurality of sealing modules ( 33 a - 33 e ) each sized to form only a portion of the pressure actuated sealant arrangement ( 32 ).

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A sealing arrangement for an enclosure, the sealing arrangement comprising: a ring of sealant material that surrounds a central axis, the ring of sealant material including a first radial sealing surface that surrounds and faces away from the central axis, the ring of sealant material also including a second radial sealing surface that surrounds and faces toward the central axis; and the ring of sealant material including sealing modules that each include a first module surface defining a portion of the first radial sealing surface and a second module surface defining a portion of the second radial sealing surface, the sealing modules forming seals between adjacent ones of the sealing modules when positioned within the ring of sealant material, the sealing modules including at least three sealing modules each having a multi-piece configuration that is fully removable from and insertable into the ring of sealant material and that provides a cable wrap-around functionality when removed from the ring of sealant material. 2. The sealing arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the sealing modules include first and second opposite axial faces, and wherein sealant containment plates are secured at the first and second axials faces. 3. The sealing arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the ring of sealant material mounts between first and second pressurization structures of an actuator, and wherein at least the sealing modules are individually insertable and removable from between the first and second pressurizations structures. 4. The sealing arrangement of claim 3 , wherein the sealing modules include first and second opposite axial faces, and wherein sealant containment plates are secured at the first and second axials faces, and wherein the sealant containment plates interlock with the first and second pressurization structures. 5. The sealing arrangement of claim 3 , wherein the actuator includes a lever or a screw-type actuator. 6. The sealing arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the sealing modules include sealing modules having different port configurations. 7. The sealing arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the sealing modules include sealing modules having different port sizes. 8. The sealing arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the sealing modules include sealing modules having different port counts. 9. A sealing arrangement for use within an enclosure comprising: a ring of sealant material that surrounds a central axis, the ring of sealant material including a first radial sealing surface that surrounds and faces away from the central axis, the ring of sealant material also including a second radial sealing surface that surrounds and faces toward the central axis, the ring of sealant material being inserted along the central axis into a housing opening defined by the enclosure; wherein the ring of sealant material includes sealing modules that each include a first module surface defining a portion of the first radial sealing surface and a second module surface defining a portion of the second radial sealing surface, the sealing modules forming seals between adjacent ones of the sealing modules when positioned within the ring of sealant material, the sealing modules including at least three sealing modules each having a multi-piece configuration that is fully removable from and insertable into the ring of sealant material and that provides a cable wrap-around functionality when removed from the ring of sealant material; wherein the first module surfaces contact an interior surface of the housing opening receiving the ring of sealant material. 10. The sealing arrangement of claim 9 , wherein the ring of sealant material mounts between first and second pressurization structures of an actuator, and wherein at least the sealing modules are individually insertable and removable from between the first and second pressurizations structures. 11. The sealing arrangement of claim 10 , wherein the sealing modules include first and second opposite axial faces, and wherein sealant containment plates are secured at the first and second axials faces, and wherein the sealant containment plates interlock with the first and second pressurization structures. 12. The sealing arrangement of claim 10 , wherein the enclosure includes a dome-style cover that attaches to a base, the base having a hollow sleeve-like configuration defining the housing opening. 13. The sealing arrangement of claim 12 , further comprising a channel clamp for securing the dome-style cover to the base. 14. The sealing arrangement of claim 10 , wherein the first and second pressurization structures each include a central body and a plurality of arms that project outwardly from the central body. 15. A sealing arrangement for an enclosure, the sealing arrangement comprising: a ring of sealant material that surrounds a central axis, the ring of sealant material including sealing modules that each include a first module surface defining a portion of a first radial sealing surface and a second module surface defining a portion of a second radial sealing surface, the sealing modules forming seals between adjacent ones of the sealing modules when positioned within the ring of sealant material; wherein the ring of sealant material mounts between first and second pressurization structures of an actuator, and wherein at least the sealing modules are individually insertable and removable from between the first and second pressurizations structures. 16. The sealing arrangement of claim 15 , wherein the sealing modules include first and second opposite axial faces, and wherein sealant containment plates are secured at the first and second axials faces. 17. The sealing arrangement of claim 15 , wherein the sealing modules include first and second opposite axial faces, and wherein sealant containment plates are secured at the first and second axials faces, and wherein the sealant containment plates interlock with the first and second pressurization structures. 18. The sealing arrangement of claim 15 , wherein the actuator includes a lever or a screw-type actuator. 19. The sealing arrangement of claim 15 , wherein the sealing modules include sealing modules having different port configurations. 20. The sealing arrangement of claim 15 , wherein the sealing modules include sealing modules having different port sizes.
