Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In an image forming apparatus to which a finisher is connected, a power source control unit shifts the image forming apparatus to a power saving state. The image forming apparatus is inhibited from being shifted to the power saving state when it is detected that a sheet for which a binding process is to be performed is set in the finisher. The image forming apparatus may be permitted to be shifted to the power saving state when it is not detected that the sheet is set in the finisher.

What is claimed is: 1. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets to a finisher having a stapler one by one, wherein the stapler is capable of stapling sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and is capable of stapling a sheet inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position at which the stapler is able to staple a sheet, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a display; and one or more processors configured to: stop power supply to the finisher based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein power supply to the finisher is not stopped even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that the sheet has been inserted to the predetermined position; and display a message for a user to remove a sheet from the insertion slot on the display, in a situation that the sheet has been inserted to the predetermined position. 2. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising: a conveying unit configured to convey the sheet on which the image has been printed to the finisher. 3. The image forming apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the sheet on which the image has been printed and which has been conveyed to the finisher is stapled with at least one sheet by the stapler. 4. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the finisher comprises a button for a user to instruct stapling the sheet inserted to the predetermined position, and the stapler is able to staple the sheet in response to pressing the button. 5. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors is further configured to stop power supply to the finisher if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that no sheet has been inserted to the predetermined position. 6. The image forming apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the display displays the message based on the detection of a sheet by a sensor. 7. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the insertion slot of the finisher is a slot for a user to insert into the finisher the sheet to be stapled by the stapler. 8. The image forming apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the predetermined event occurs at a time designated by a user. 9. An image forming apparatus capable of having a finisher attached thereto, the finisher having a sensor capable of detecting a sheet inserted from an insertions lot of the finisher to a predetermined position and a stapler capable of stapling sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus one by one and capable of stapling the detected sheet, the image forming apparatus comprising: a display; a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; and one or more processors configured to: stop power supply to the finisher based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein power supply to the finisher is not stopped even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that the sheet has been detected by the sensor; and display a message for a user to remove a sheet from the insertion slot on the display, in a situation that the sheet has been detected by the sensor. 10. The image forming apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the predetermined position is a position at which the stapler is able to staple the sheet. 11. The image forming apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the image forming apparatus conveys the sheets to the finisher one by one. 12. The image forming apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the one or more processors is further configured to stop power supply to the finisher based on the predetermined event occurring in a situation that no sheet has been detected by the sensor. 13. The image forming apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the insertion slot is a slot for a user to insert into the finisher the sheet to be stapled by the stapler. 14. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets one by one to a finisher, the finisher capable of stapling the conveyed sheets from the image forming apparatus and stapling a sheet inserted from an insertion slot to a predetermined position at which the stapler is capable of stapling the sheet, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a power supply unit configured to supply power to the finisher; a display; and one or more processors configured to: cause the power supply unit to stop power supply to the finisher based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein the power supply unit is not caused to stop power supply to the finisher even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that the sheet has been inserted to the predetermined position; and display a message for a user to remove a sheet from the insertion slot on the display, in a situation that the sheet has been inserted to the predetermined position. 15. The image forming apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein the image forming apparatus conveys the sheets to the finisher one by one. 16. A method of controlling an image forming apparatus capable of having a finisher attached thereto, the finisher having a sensor capable of detecting a sheet inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position and a stapler capable of stapling sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus one by one and capable of stapling the detected sheet, the method of the image forming apparatus comprising: printing an image on a sheet; stopping power supply to the finisher based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein power supply to the finisher is not stopped even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that the sheet has been detected by the sensor; and displaying a message for a user to remove a sheet from the insertion slot, in a situation that the sheet has been detected by the sensor. 17. The method according to claim 16 , further comprising: conveying the sheet on which the image has been printed to the finisher. 18. The method according to claim 17 , wherein the sheet on which the image has been printed and which has been conveyed to the finisher is stapled with at least one sheet by the stapler. 19. An image forming apparatus capable of conveying sheets one by one to a finisher having a stapler, wherein the finisher has a sensor configured to detect a sheet inserted from an insertion slot of the finisher to a predetermined position and staple sheets conveyed from the image forming apparatus and staple the detected sheet, the image forming apparatus comprising: a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet; a display; and one or more processors configured to: stop power supply to the finisher based on occurring of a predetermined event, wherein power supply to the finisher is not stopped even if the predetermined event occurs in a situation that a sheet is at the predetermined position at which the sheet is detected by the sensor; and display a message for a user to remove a sheet from the insertion slot on the display, in a situation that a sheet is at the predetermined position. 20. The image forming apparatus according to claim 19 , wherein the predetermined event occurs at a time set by a user.
