Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A sheet feeding apparatus for feeding a sheet includes a first lift tray configured to move up or down in a first lift range and to support a sheet; a sheet feeding unit configured to feed a sheet supported by the first lift tray; and a second lift tray configured to move up or down in a second lift range and to support a sheet in cooperation with the first lift tray. A lowest position in the second lift range is a position above a lowest position in the first lift range, and the second lift range is a range which is narrower than the first lift range.

What is claimed is: 1. A sheet feeding apparatus for feeding a sheet, comprising: a first lift tray configured to move up and down in a first lift range and to support a sheet; a sheet feeding unit configured to feed a sheet supported by the first lift tray; and a second lift tray configured to move up and down in a second lift range and to support a sheet in cooperation with the first lift tray, wherein a lowest position in the second lift range is a position above a lowest position in the first lift range, and the second lift range is a range which is narrower than the first lift range. 2. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a highest position in the second lift range is a position same as a highest position in the first lift range. 3. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the second lift tray is connected to the first lift tray, and moves up and down within the second lift range at a same time as the first lift tray. 4. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 3 , further comprising a single drive motor for moving the first and second lift trays up and down. 5. A sheet feeding apparatus for feeding sheets, comprising: a first lift tray configured to move up and down, and supporting a first sheet and a front end side, in a sheet feeding direction, of a second sheet which is longer than the first sheet; a sheet feeding unit configured to feed the first sheet and the second sheet supported by the first lift tray, in the sheet feeding direction; a second lift tray configured to move up and down and to support a rear end, in a sheet feeding direction, of the second sheet wherein the front end side of the second sheet is supported by the first lift tray, and a lift unit moving the first lift tray up and down within a first lift range when the first lift tray supports the first sheet, and moving the first lift tray up and down within a second lift range which is narrower than the first lift range when the first lift tray supports the second sheet in cooperation with the second lift tray, wherein a lowest position in the second lift range is above a lowest position in the first lift range. 6. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the lift unit moves the second lift tray up and down within the second lift range when the first lift tray and the second lift tray cooperatively support the second sheet. 7. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein a highest position in the second lift range is a position same as a highest position in the first lift range. 8. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the second lift tray is connected to the first lift tray, and moves up and down within the second lift range at a same time as the first lift tray. 9. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the lift unit includes a single drive motor for moving the first and second lift trays up and down. 10. A sheet feeding apparatus for feeding a sheet, comprising: a first lift tray configured to move up and down to support a sheet; a sheet feeding unit configured to feed a sheet on the first lift tray, in a sheet-feeding direction; a second lift tray configured to move up and down on which a rear end side, in a sheet-feeding direction, of a sheet longer than a predetermined length supported by the first lift tray is mounted; an acquiring unit acquiring data representing a length of the sheet supported by the first lift tray; and a lift unit moving the first lift tray up and down within a first lift range in a case wherein sheet-length data acquired by the acquiring unit shows a sheet with a predetermined length or less, and moving the first lift tray up and down within a second lift range shorter than the first lift range in a case wherein the sheet-length data acquired by the acquiring unit shows a sheet longer than the predetermined length, wherein a lowest position in the second lift range is above a lowest position in the first lift range. 11. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the lift unit moves the second lift tray up and down within the second lift range in a case wherein the sheet-length data acquired by the acquiring unit shows a sheet longer than the predetermined length. 12. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 11 , further comprising: a first detecting unit disposed in a lowest position in the first lift range to detect that the first lift tray has reached the lowest position in the first lift range; and a second detecting unit disposed in a lowest position in the second lift range to detect that the second lift tray has reached the lowest position in the second lift range. 13. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the second lift tray is connected to the first lift tray, and moves up and down within the second lift range at a same time as the first lift tray. 14. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 13 , further comprising a single drive motor for moving the first and second lift trays up and down. 15. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the second lift tray is disconnectably connected to the first lift tray, and when the second lift tray is disconnected from the first lift tray, the first lift tray is able to move up and down, independently from the second lift tray, within the first lift range including below the second lift range. 16. The sheet feeding apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein a highest position in the second lift range is a position same as a highest position in the first lift range.
