Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A band includes a tubular body configured to be worn on a user's body and a pocket supported by the tubular body, where the pocket defines a cavity and has an access opening providing access to the cavity, and where the pocket is configured to removably receive an electronic module in the cavity through the access opening. An input device is connected to the tubular body and has a port exposed to the cavity of the band, where the port is configured for removable connection to a connector of the electronic module when the electronic module is received in the cavity. The input device may include a button configured to receive user input and a wireless transmitter to transmit a signal to an external device based on the user input. The input device may also include a haptic feedback mechanism for communicating haptic signals to the user.

What is claimed is: 1. An electronic module comprising: a casing having a top side and a bottom side, the casing having a projection on the bottom side; a sensor mounted on the projection, wherein the sensor is configured to sense a physiological parameter of a user; a computer device contained within the casing and in communication with the sensor; and an interface defined on the top side of the casing and configured to receive user input for operation of the computer device. 2. The electronic module of claim 1 , wherein the electronic module further comprises a connector positioned at an end of the casing and connected to the computer device, the connector configured for connection to an external device. 3. The electronic module of claim 2 , wherein the connector is a USB connector. 4. The electronic module of claim 2 , further comprising a retaining structure on an underside of the connector configured to retain the connector within a pocket. 5. The electronic module of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is an optical heart rate sensor. 6. The electronic module of claim 1 , wherein the casing is elongated between two ends, wherein the top side and the bottom side extend between the two ends, and the projection is located between the two ends. 7. The electronic module of claim 6 , wherein the casing has a thin profile, such that a height of the casing measured between a bottom of the projection and the top side of the casing is smaller than a length of the casing measured between the two ends or a width of the casing measured perpendicular to the length and the height. 8. The electronic module of claim 6 , wherein the interface comprises a button located on the top side and between the two ends. 9. The electronic module of claim 1 , wherein the interface further comprises a readable display configured to provide a visual indication to the user. 10. The electronic module of claim 9 , wherein the display comprises a light. 11. The electronic module of claim 1 , wherein the projection is offset from a center of the casing. 12. An electronic module comprising: a casing that is elongated between two ends, the casing having a top side and a bottom side extending between the two ends and a projection on the bottom side and located between the two ends; a sensor mounted on the projection, wherein the sensor is configured to sense a physiological parameter of a user; a computer device contained within the casing and in communication with the sensor; a connector located at one of the ends of the casing, wherein the connector is connected to the computer device and configured for connection to an external device; and an interface defined on the top side of the casing and located between the two ends, the interface configured to receive user input for operation of the computer device. 13. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the sensor is an optical heart rate sensor. 14. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the projection is located more proximate to the connector than to the end of the casing opposite the connector. 15. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the connector is a USB connector. 16. The electronic module of claim 12 , further comprising a retaining structure on an underside of the connector configured to retain the connector within a pocket. 17. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the casing has a thin profile, such that a height of the casing measured between a bottom of the projection and the top side of the casing is smaller than a length of the casing measured between the two ends or a width of the casing measured perpendicular to the length and the height. 18. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the interface comprises a button located on the top side and between the two ends. 19. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the interface further comprises a readable display configured to provide a visual indication to the user. 20. The electronic module of claim 19 , wherein the display comprises a light. 21. The electronic module of claim 12 , wherein the projection is offset from a center of the casing. 22. An electronic module comprising: a casing that is elongated between first and second ends, the casing having a top side and a bottom side extending between the first and second ends, wherein the casing has a thin profile, such that a height of the casing measured between the bottom side and the top side of the casing is smaller than a length of the casing measured between the first and second ends or a width of the casing measured perpendicular to the length and the height; a computer device contained within the casing, the computer device including a processor, a memory, and a wireless communication interface; a connector located the first end of the casing, wherein the connector is connected to the computer device and configured for insertion into a port for connection to an external device; and a display on the top side of the casing and located proximate the second end of the casing, configured for providing at least one visual indicia to a user. 23. The electronic module of claim 22 , wherein the display comprises a light source, and wherein the at least one visual indicia is provided by altering at least one of a color, an intensity, and a pattern of illumination of the light source. 24. The electronic module of claim 22 , wherein the display comprises a light source, and wherein the at least one visual indicia is provided by altering a color and a pattern of illumination of the light source. 25. The electronic module of claim 22 , wherein the connector is a USB connector. 26. The electronic module of claim 22 , further comprising a retaining structure on the bottom side of the casing, configured to retain the electronic module in connection with an article of apparel. 27. The electronic module of claim 22 , further comprising an interface defined on the top side of the casing and located adjacent to the display, the interface configured to receive user input for operation of the computer device. 28.
