Systems and methods for controlling the emission of gases and/or flames emitted from one or more electrochemical cells are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, gas emitted from an electrochemical cell located within an interior of an enclosure may be flowed through a flow restriction to reduce a pressure and/or temperature of the gas and/or the gas may be flowed through a catalyst prior to exiting through an outlet of the enclosure.

What is claimed is: 1. An electrochemical cell housing comprising: an enclosure having an interior chamber constructed and arranged to receive at least one electrochemical cell; an outlet formed in the enclosure; at least one flow restriction constructed and arranged to allow gas emitted from the at least one electrochemical cell to flow from the interior chamber through the at least one flow restriction to the outlet; and at least one catalyst, wherein gas emitted from the at least one electrochemical cell flows from the interior chamber through the at least one catalyst to the outlet, and wherein the catalyst catalyzes lithium. 2. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the at least one catalyst is located upstream from the at least one flow restriction. 3. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the at least one catalyst is located downstream from the at least one flow restriction. 4. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the one or more flow restrictions are configured to reduce a pressure of the gas by a factor between or equal to 5 and 20. 5. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the one or more flow restrictions are configured to reduce a temperature of the gas by a factor between or equal to 2 and 5. 6. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 1 , wherein a flow path extending from the interior chamber of the enclosure to the outlet is a tortuous flow path. 7. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 6 , wherein a predetermined vent of the at least one electrochemical cell is directed away from an inlet to the flow path. 8. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 1 , further comprising one or more seals that seal the catalyst under a non-oxidizing atmosphere. 9. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 8 , wherein the one or more seals rupture above a threshold pressure. 10. An electrochemical cell housing comprising: an enclosure having an interior chamber constructed and arranged to receive at least one electrochemical cell; an outlet formed in the enclosure; at least one flow restriction constructed and arranged to allow gas emitted from the at least one electrochemical cell to flow from the interior chamber through the at least one flow restriction to the outlet; at least one catalyst, wherein gas emitted from the at least one electrochemical cell flows from the interior chamber through the at least one catalyst to the outlet; and one or more seals that seal the catalyst under a non-oxidizing atmosphere. 11. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein the at least one catalyst is located upstream from the at least one flow restriction. 12. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein the at least one catalyst is located downstream from the at least one flow restriction. 13. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein the one or more flow restrictions are configured to reduce a pressure of the gas by a factor between or equal to 5 and 20. 14. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein the one or more flow restrictions are configured to reduce a temperature of the gas by a factor between or equal to 2 and 5. 15. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein a flow path extending from the interior chamber of the enclosure to the outlet is a tortuous flow path. 16. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 15 , wherein a predetermined vent of the at least one electrochemical cell is directed away from an inlet to the flow path. 17. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein the catalyst catalyzes lithium. 18. The electrochemical cell enclosure of claim 10 , wherein the one or more seals rupture above a threshold pressure.
