Official abstract text for this publication.
One aspect includes a method for constructing a specified virtual solution, comprising: obtaining a solution profile from a solution repository catalog, wherein the solution profile identifies one or more resources for the specified virtual solution; acquiring the one or more resources identified by the solution profile from one or more devices; and assembling the acquired one or more resources in accordance with the solution profile to construct the specified virtual solution. Another aspect includes a method for providing a Resource-as-a-Service (RaaS) functionality in a cloud architecture, comprising: implementing a software defined infrastructure comprising distributed workload placement, location management, and data management; and implementing a RaaS layer comprising resource discovery and registration of capabilities.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for providing a Resource-as-a-Service (RaaS) functionality in a cloud architecture, comprising: implementing a software defined infrastructure comprising distributed workload placement, location management, and data management; implementing a RaaS layer comprising resource discovery and registration of capabilities; and forming an ad hoc cloud with multi-dimensionality elasticity using the RaaS layer, the ad hoc cloud comprising one or more devices, each device having a device cloudification plug-in and advertising its available functionalities as virtual resources. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising implementing privacy and security governed by at least one policy. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the at least one policy specifies a profile based on at least one of a resource type, a localization context, a cloud initiator context, an application context, and a service context. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cloud architecture comprises at least one of a smart cloud of smart resources (SCSR) and a smart cloud of smart things (SCST). 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cloud architecture comprises a plurality of resource types that are not tied to a single data center or cloud provider. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RaaS functionality allows formation of the ad hoc cloud with the multi-dimensionality elasticity. 7. An apparatus for providing a Resource-as-a-Service (RaaS) functionality in a cloud architecture, comprising: a memory; and at least one processor, coupled to said memory, and operative to: implement a software defined infrastructure comprising distributed workload placement, location management, and data management; implement a RaaS layer comprising resource discovery and registration of capabilities; and form an ad hoc cloud with multi-dimensionality elasticity using the RaaS layer, the ad hoc cloud comprising one or more devices, each device having a device cloudification plug-in and advertising its available functionalities as virtual resources. 8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the at least one processor is further operative to implement privacy and security governed by at least one policy. 9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one policy specifies a profile based on at least one of a resource type, a localization context, a cloud initiator context, an application context, and a service context. 10. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the cloud architecture comprises at least one of a smart cloud of smart resources (SCSR) and a smart cloud of smart things (SCST). 11. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the cloud architecture comprises a plurality of resource types that are not tied to a single data center or cloud provider. 12. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the RaaS functionality allows formation of the ad hoc cloud with the multi-dimensionality elasticity. 13. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions which when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method for providing a Resource-as-a-Service (RaaS) functionality in a cloud architecture, the method comprising: implementing a software defined infrastructure comprising distributed workload placement, location management, and data management; implementing a RaaS layer comprising resource discovery and registration of capabilities; and forming an ad hoc cloud with multi-dimensionality elasticity using the RaaS layer, the ad hoc cloud comprising one or more devices, each device having a device cloudification plug-in and advertising its available functionalities as virtual resources. 14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the method further comprises implementing privacy and security governed by at least one policy. 15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the at least one policy specifies a profile based on at least one of a resource type, a localization context, a cloud initiator context, an application context, and a service context. 16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the cloud architecture comprises at least one of a smart cloud of smart resources (SCSR) and a smart cloud of smart things (SCST). 17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the cloud architecture comprises a plurality of resource types that are not tied to a single data center or cloud provider. 18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the RaaS functionality allows formation of the ad hoc cloud with the multi-dimensionality elasticity.
